Houston, TX

Charles H. “Butch” Gregory received a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1964. As a student, he was commander of the Ross Volunteers, active in Student Conference on National Affairs, and first sergeant and commander of Company F-2 in the Corps of Cadets. He earned a law degree from the University of Texas in 1967.

He served in the U.S. Army 1967-69 to the rank of captain, primarily in intelligence in Vietnam. He then worked for a regional securities firm and became its vice president of venture capital operations. For 30 years, he served as CEO of Rupley Holdings, purchasing its predecessor out of bankruptcy and building it into four separate businesses.

He served for seven years on the board of trustees of the Texas A&M Foundation and was chairman. He has also served on the President’s Board of Visitors and for more than 20 years on the Liberal Arts Development Council. He is a class co-representative for the Ross Volunteers Association and a class representative for Company F-2. He served on A&M’s Vision 2020 planning group and the committee for A&M’s early-2000s capital campaign. He also supports and serves Houston charities.

In 2016, he was inducted into the Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor, and in 2017, he received the university’s highest honor, the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

His family includes wife Mary, a son and a daughter, as well as his late father, R.P. Gregory ’32, and uncles A.J. Gray ’45 and Delbert W. Gray ’49.

Gregory says his time at A&M shaped his life, and he graduated with not only a degree, but also skills he would use and standards he would live by for the rest of his life. He also believes one of the best ways to improve the world is to invest in future generations of Aggies.

Because of his appreciation for the lessons learned at A&M and a calling to support future students, he and his wife, Mary, made the decision to become Endowed Century Club members. They have also created an endowed chair in liberal arts and a graduate student fellowship and has supported The Gardens at Texas A&M project, the MSC renovation and the Texas A&M Foundation building fund, among other gifts.

Jimmie Bratton graduated from Texas A&M in 1964 with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. As a student, Bratton was a member of Corps of Cadets Squadron 15, as well as a Ross Volunteer.

After completing his freshman year, he married Aileen, and several years later, while Jimmie Bratton was in graduate school, the couple welcomed their first son. The demands of school and a growing family kept the Brattons very busy. Still, Jimmie Bratton cites this time at A&M as creating the foundation of his career, providing him with both the knowledge and leadership skills needed to be successful.

“Texas A&M prepares its students to be successful in not just a profession but in life,” he said. “The principles, the ethics instilled in one at A&M are the foundation of a successful life.”

He received various scholarships over the years that enabled him to stay in school and for which he was always incredibly grateful. The impact of those scholarships and the life lessons he learned at A&M prompted Bratton to want to give another student the same positive Aggie experience.

Born in Bryan, I am a homegrown Aggie. I developed a devotion and desire to attend A&M at an early age. The Aggie traditions, education and love for our country by the student body cannot be equaled anywhere – bar none. Beverly and I were married while I was enrolled as a senior at Texas A&M, and we fully understand the difficulty in balancing class and work responsibilities while making ends meet. We hope that our commitment, through scholarships by The Association, will help the average student alleviate some of these financial demands and lead them to graduation and a successful career.

The leadership training I received while in the Corps put me ahead of my peers. Being an Aggie has brought me a network of Aggie classmates and friends that have been loyal and caring.
