Harvey Cash received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1933. Throughout his more than 20-year career with Texaco, he advanced through the ranks to become Executive Vice President in 1962. He was recognized for his petroleum expertise and ability to negotiate with high ranking officials of foreign governments. He played an important role in preventing serious energy problems in Western Europe during the 1967 Middle East crisis.



Cash served as President of The Association of Former Students in 1978, was a founding member of the Texas A&M University’s Presidential Endowed Scholarship program and was instrumental in implementing changes in annual fundraising.

Sanger, TX

Hollingsworth received a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1940. Hollingsworth’s 36-year military career touched the sands of North Africa, spanned the length of Europe, and contributed to the stability of a volatile situation in the Far East.



Hollingsworth was assigned to Korea in 1973 and served as Commanding General of the I Corps which is the largest field army command in the world. He also directed 13 divisions of Republic of Korea and United States Troops. He changed the strategy of defense for Korea and developed the now famous short-war concept which has become the example for the United States forward defense concepts. His decorations include Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star and Purple Heart with five Oakleaf Clusters.

Temple, TX

Newnam received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1931. He worked to establish procedures for designing and testing bridge foundations and large embankments, later turning his attention to military projects. Following WWII he headed Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam, Inc. as Chairman of the Board and Co-owner.



Newnam worked on the design and construction of projects at Texas A&M including the cyclotron building, dormitories, expansion of Kyle Field and on road, street, parking and drainage improvements. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and six other states and served as president of American Society of Civil Engineers and Texas Society of Professional Engineers.

Thompson received a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1941 and an L.L.B. degree from the South Texas College of Law in 1949. After becoming a noted specialist in admiralty law, he was appointed Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission, a role in which he served until 1975.



He participated in the founding of Texas A&M University’s Center for Education and Research in Free Enterprise and serves on the Center’s Board of Consultants. Thompson was recognized nationally as Free Enterprise Man of the Year in 1976.



He served as an Alumni Counselor to the Corps of Cadets and has given strong assistance to Texas A&M’s annual Student Conference on National Affairs and is a founding member of the University’s President’s Endowed Scholarship Program.

Allen received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1951 and did postgraduate studies at the University of Houston and studied law at the South Texas School of Law. As a student, he was a member of the 1950 Southwest Conference championship basketball team. Allen was named President of Gulf Resources and Chemical Corp. in 1960.



After his position as Senior Accountant at J.L. Block & Company in Houston, he joined Gulf Sulfur Corporation and served as Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer before being elected President in 1959. He served on governing boards of the American Mining Congress, First City National Bank of Houston, St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Colorado Outward Bound School, and SMC Industries, Inc. of Dallas.

Pittsburg, TX

Brison received a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture in 1921, a master’s degree from Michigan State University in 1931, and did advanced graduate studies at the University of California in 1936. After a more than 60-year career in the agriculture industry, Brison was known as the world’s foremost authority on pecans.



Brison was the President of the Texas Pecan Growers Association, President of the Federated Pecan Growers of America, and received honors in the industry such as Gold Pecan Award of National Pecan Shellers & Processors Association, and the Distinguished Technical Contribution Award of Award. He also received The Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching while he was a professor of horticulture at Texas A&M.

Clayton received a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1950. His leadership as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives was instrumental in the development and passage of school finance legislation, a highway funding bill, sunset legislation, reorganization of state water agencies, and the Briscoe-Clayton anti-crime package. In 1979, he became the first person to be elected to a third consecutive term as Speaker of the House.

Heldenfels received a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Administration. He later formed Heldenfels Properties, Inc and served as President.



During his tenure on the Board of Directors of The Texas A&M University System, the name of the College changed to Texas A&M University, women enrolled for the first time, and membership in the Corps of Cadets was made optional. A new classroom and laboratory building was named in his honor on Texas A&M’s campus in 1977.

Bracewell received a bachelor’s degree in History in 1938 and a Bachelor of Law degree at Houston Law School. He served as a U.S. Army Major in World War II. He is co-founder of Bracewell Patterson, LLP which was established in 1945.



Bracewell served in the Texas House of Representatives and Senate. He was a Counselor and Trustee to the Texas A&M Research Foundation and served on The Association of Former Students Board of Directors.

Lindsey received a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1947. After graduation, he formed Lindsey Insurance Agency with his father and is a founding director and member of the Executive Committee of Southern National Bank. He also served as the President of the Executive Committee of the Alley Theater of the Board of Directors and the Vice President of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.



Lindsey was a General Advisor of the Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) and hosted annual Houston trips for Texas A&M University’s Student Leadership Conferences. He served as President of The Association of Former Students in 1964 and was a Counselor and Trustee to the Texas A&M Research Foundation.
