Rodger Thomas Wiley 
August 29, 1927 – January 17, 2023

Rodger T. Wiley, 95, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2023, in Austin, Texas. Rodger was born on August 29, 1927, in Leander, Texas to Farrest Mood Wiley and Bernice Knox Wiley. He was preceded in death by wife Novella Hibler Wiley, 3 brothers, and one sister.

Rodger attended school in Leander and graduated in 1944. Rodger married Novella Hibler on September 10, 1948, in Austin, Texas. Rodger attended Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1950 and a Master of Education in 1955.

Rodger began his career in education in Cotulla, Texas and then moved to Austin to work for the Austin Independent School District until he retired. During his employment at AISD Rodger served as Principal at O. Henry Junior High School and Lanier High School. Rodger received many honors during his employment at AISD and was honored as Principal of the Year while he was Principal at O. Henry Junior High School. After his retirement from AISD, Rodger was employed at The Texas Youth Commission for over ten years serving as an education liaison with public schools. Rodger was a member of Austin Retired Teachers Association and a lifelong member of Leander Presbyterian Church. Also, Rodger was an Army Veteran. Rodger enjoyed ranching, hunting, time with his family, and attending Texas A&M sporting events.

Rodger is survived by son Rodger Timothy (DeAnna) Wiley of Austin, grandson James Meason Wiley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, granddaughter Sarah Kathryn Wiley (Brandon Millen) of Austin, granddaughter Andrea (Bill) Maceyra of Austin, grandson James Eric (Kristen) Lloyd of Houston and three great grandchildren.

A visitation for Rodger will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM at Bagdad Cemetery, 400 N. Bagdad Rd., Leander, Texas 78641.

Serving as pallbearers are Meason Wiley, Bill Maceyra, Eric Lloyd and Brandon Millen.
