Carl J. Kuhnle, Jr.
February 14, 1929 - February 21, 2023

Carl J. Kuhnle, Jr., passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 2, at Central Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Judith Hardie officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

Carl was born February 14, 1929, in Calvert, Texas, to Carl and Edna Roth Kuhnle. He graduated from Bryan High School and entered the Navy. After honorable discharge from the Navy, Carl received his mechanical engineering degree from Texas A&M University.

He moved to Waco to work for Lone Star Gas as an Engineer. This is where he met the love of his life, Billie Kathryn. Together they raised their daughter, Deborah Kay.

After working for Rocketdyne Carl went on to become an Associate Professor in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration for Texas State Technical College. While at TSTC, Carl established the Solar Energy Program. He later retired and enjoyed his time in his shop doing woodworking.

Carl was chosen as Engineer of the Year in 1976. He was a registered Engineer for over 50 years. He was a member of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, and served on the Waco Plumbing Board and Citizen Advisory Commission.

He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and Usher. Carl was instrumental with the installation of the organ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Billie Kuhnle; daughter, Deborah Kuhnle; and brother, William Kuhnle.

He is survived by his niece, Cindy Kahlig and husband, David; nephew, Mike Mitchell; and goddaughter, Regan Kahlig.

Pallbearers are Mike Mitchell, David Kahlig, DeWayne Garrett, Jay Bryngelson, Jim Pierce, and Chris Wolfe.
