Don E. Whitt
June 22, 1937 - February 4, 2023

Don E. Whitt, 85, of Frisco, TX, passed away on the morning of Saturday, February 4, after a long, blessed life.

Don was born on June 22, 1937, in Marysville, Texas, to William Buford and Nomie Bowles Whitt.

Don graduated from Muenster High in 1955 and left home to attend Texas A&M University. At A&M Don was in the Army Corps of Cadets. He graduated in 1959 with a B.S. in Agricultural Education and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. In 1959, Don assumed active duty where he served at both Fort Benning in Georgia and Fort Hood in Texas, followed by 6 years in the Army Reserves.

Don went on to teach while he earned his Master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas. After teaching in Grapevine ISD, Don became the Superintendent of Kennedale ISD in 1970. Don spent the majority of his career as the Superintendent of Wylie ISD (Go Pirates!) from 1972 until he retired in 1993. In 2008, Don was honored by Wylie ISD with the opening of an elementary school in his name.

While at A&M, Don met the love of his life, Geraldine Anne Geary of Monahans, Texas. They married on August 30, 1959, and spent the next 63 years together. Don and Gerry spent many of those years in Wylie raising their four children. The couple were very active parishioners and volunteers at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie, Texas. Upon their retirement, they were able to create memories traveling together and spending their summers in Ruidoso, New Mexico, the same town where they had their honeymoon.

Don rarely missed a home A&M game. He and Gerry cherished their time together supporting the Aggies. Don and Gerry loved making memories at Whitt Elementary, passing out treats on the first day of school and visiting with the students and staff.

Don is survived by his wife, Gerry, 83; his children and their spouses, Dan Whitt (Marsha), Andrea Mitchell (Trish), Carter Whitt and Doug Whitt; his seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Nomie Whitt; his brothers, Rev. Bill Whitt and James Whitt; his sister, Linda Bartlett. All of whom Don loved dearly.

It is with gratitude and privilege that the family thanks each person that has touched Don's life. Everyone that knows him will miss his contagious smile and gentle eyes. He was truly a one of a kind husband, father, Papaw, and friend. Until we meet him again, Gig'em!

On a personal note from Don and Gerry’s children- Mom and Dad had the greatest friends in Wylie who helped make our lives so special. You know who you are and THANKS for being a part of our lives!

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the staff at Allen Funeral Home in Wylie, TX.

A Rosary will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Wylie, TX, on Wednesday, February 8, from 4:30-5:30 pm. A Visitation will follow from 6:30-9:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Thursday, February 9, at 10:30 am, followed by a private family burial.
