Glenwood Walter Specht

February 12, 1933 - January 19, 2023

Glenwood Walter (Glen) Specht of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away at age 89 on January 19, 2023.
Glen was born in Brenham, Texas, to Martha (Lange) and Walter C. Specht on February 12, 1933. He was a proud member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and a Ross Volunteer, Class of '55, and he will forever be an Aggie. Glen married the love of his life, Jan (Crooks), and the couple raised two daughters, Sandy and Sharon.

Glen had a nearly-40-year career with Humble Oil & Refining (later Exxon) as a Geological Scientist, working first in Louisiana on seismic field crews before moving to Los Angeles, where he met Jan. Humble moved the family to Baytown, then Kingsville, and finally Midland (all in Texas), where Glen retired. The couple later moved to Littleton, Colorado, and then Wind Crest retirement community in nearby Highlands Ranch.

Glen was a lifelong learner and the local librarian knew him well. His interests included economics, political science, ancient history, philosophy and religion. He served as Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Midland, and was active in the professional organizations American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers. His family enjoyed the many family vacations that Glen meticulously planned, and in later years, he and Jan ventured as far as the Swiss Alps, the Panama Canal, and the Galapagos Islands.

Glen loved Texas A&M and the Corps. He could not have attended college without a scholarship and he never forgot how that changed the trajectory of his life. He and Jan established 10 endowed scholarships at Texas A&M. He corresponded with every student he sponsored and was as proud of them as he was of his own children and grandchildren.

Glen was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores (Specht) Naumann.

He is survived by his wife Jan; daughters Sandy Halvorson and Sharon (Tom) Tunnell; grandchildren Thomas, Kathryn and Madeline; niece Katheryn (Haskell) Moore and nephew Neal (Janice Stokes) Naumann; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family is planning a private service.
