Clarence Ray Scurlock

February 18, 1924 - January 30, 2023

Clarence Ray Scurlock passed peacefully at his home on Monday, January 30, 2023 with his family by his side.

A memorial service celebrating Ray Scurlock’s life will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be before the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Bray, with interment following at Forest Park West.

Ray was born in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana in the Community of Lula, Louisiana on February 18, 1924. He grew up in Center, Texas and attended Texas A&M University and was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1945.

He worked as a geologist for Gulf Oil for 14 years, then as an independent geologist for the remainder of his career. He was a member of the Shreveport Geological Society, American Association of Petroleum Geologist, Society of Professional Earth Scientists and a member of Summer Grove United Methodist Church for 60 years.

He served as a pilot in The United States Army Air Corps from 1943-1946. He had a love for travel and made many special memories with friends and family at his camp on Toledo Bend. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, family gatherings and watching sunsets with Melba by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hazel Norris Scurlock and Clarence Paul Scurlock, his brother John Tom Scurlock, his sister Lynda Scurlock and his granddaughter Carla Lenert.

He is survived by his wife Melba of 73 years; two sons Ted Scurlock and wife Polly, Dan Scurlock and wife Nancy; three daughters Janet Dodd and husband Henry, Judy Lenert and husband Steve, and Ann Karkoska. He also leaves 18 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren who love him dearly.

Pallbearers will be his 8 grandsons, Paul Dodd, Cody Lenert, Patrick Dodd, Peyton Dodd, Clint Scurlock, Peter Scurlock, Joshua Karkoska and Daniel Karkoska.

If you choose a memorial remembrance, the family would be honored by a gift to Carla’s memorial fund at Samaritan Counseling Center, 1525 Stephen’s St, Shreveport, LA 71101.
