Roll Call Tribute

Kevin Driskill '88 February 7, 2023 11:16 AM updated: February 7, 2023 11:25 AM

Kevin Joseph Driskill
May 26, 1965 - October 11, 2022

Kevin Driskill was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 26, 1965, to Julia and Delbert Driskill. Kevin grew up with several siblings as he was the 4th of 6 children. As a child, he was always playing various games and sports with siblings and/or the abundantly available kids in the neighborhood.

He attended St. Martin’s Hall grade school, Central Catholic High School and then Texas A&M where he got his degree in Building Construction.

Coming from a large family, there was always a lot of fun, but also a share of chores. His parents showed all their kids a strong sense of work ethic which was instilled deeply in Kevin. If you were lucky, you got a chance to hear Kevin’s stories about being a Bat Boy for the San Antonio Dodgers and meeting several players who would go on to become Major league players. Or how he worked at a lumber yard and removed & installed roofing shingles as a teenager. (That is probably where the construction bug was started).

Kevin was a senior in high school when he met Priscilla and that was the beginning of their love story. They dated through the rest of high school and into college, and spent a few semesters writing love letters to each other when they dated long distance. During time together at A&M, there were football games, playing pool at the Dixie Chicken, and lots of time hanging out with friends. And studying.

They married in October 1988 and graduated from Texas A&M that December. With brand new degrees and a job offer in hand, they moved to Durham, North Carolina to start the next chapter of their lives. Priscilla started at IBM and Kevin worked at Proctor Flooring & Acoustical, which began his life in the flooring business. They began their family shortly after when Christopher was born a year later. Being a father was the next thing for him to tackle and excel. Eventually Michael came along, and Kevin had two sons for whom he would build a playground, rake leaf piles for them to jump into, and be their coach for soccer and baseball.

In September 1998, the great move back to Texas occurred. Kevin & Priscilla found a house in the (then) relatively new neighborhood, Oakbrook, in north Austin. They instantly realized that they had found a perfect spot for their young family. It’s been an amazing combination of school and church friends for the entire family.

Once in Texas, Kevin started working for Swiff-Train Company as a Territory Sales manager where he grew Austin sales and would always be one of the top salesmen. His hard work ethic paid off, but part of his success was simply because of his personality. Customers became friends. Kevin often said that he really enjoyed his job, fully living the phrase – Do what you love.

One of the perks of his success was the ability for Kevin and Priscilla to travel with Swiff-Train employees and customers on many unforgettable vacations in Europe, cruises, and beautiful beaches. Those vacations were where Kevin shined because his smile and fun-loving personality was infectious.

His strong work ethic and endearing personality is part of Kevin’s legacy. In every portion of his life, he & Priscilla have found long-lasting friendships that continue today. He was a baseball player that loved being a season ticket holder at the Round Rock Express and grew friendships there. He was a deer hunter who spent many weekends with friends and family at the deer lease. He was a wine enthusiast who loved trying new cabernets sitting around a table with friends. He was a grill master who made some of the best briskets and Thanksgiving smoked turkeys. He was the adventurer who wanted to go skydiving on his 50th birthday and was joined by his boys (much to the chagrin of Priscilla). He was “Papa Drisk” to the next generation. He was the ‘host with the most’ leading to a saying – “Ain’t no party like a Driskill party”. He was a friend to many and a lived a life that embodied the golden rule.

He was a devoted son, an outstanding brother, and an admirable Uncle to many nieces & nephews. He was an amazing example to his sons, and he was a wonderful loving husband.

He made this world a better place and we should all aspire to follow his lead in our lives.

Kevin leaves behind: his wife Priscilla Driskill, son Christopher, son Mike and his wife Jayla. His parents Delbert and Julia Driskill. His siblings: Julie Hoog and husband Tom, Scott Driskill, Laura Kasprowicz and husband Danny, Jeff Driskill and wife Loraine, and Patrick Driskill and wife Doris.
