Robert "Bob" Gibson Jr. '65 February 6, 2023 2:07 PM updated: February 6, 2023 2:13 PM

Robert "Bob" Lee Gibson, Jr.
January 16, 1943 – January 3, 2023

Robert Lee Gibson, Jr, 79, passed away January 3rd, 2023, just 13 days from his 80th birthday in Georgetown, Texas.

Bob, as his friends and family called him, attended Washington-Lee High School, in Virginia, the first integrated school in that area of which he was very proud; the same school Sandra Bullock attended years later.

He also attended Texas A&M University (Farmers Fight!) where he made life-long friends and brothers who were regularly a part of his life. (Go Aggies!) After joining the army he fought in Vietnam and was stationed in Panama and Germany. At the time he transitioned from Army to the Reserve he was a Captain.

He continued working for the government by way of the US Post Office for several years and served as Union Leader. After moving to Austin, Texas, he worked for the Department of Emergency Management, first in planning for nuclear attacks and then as a Program Administrator for more than 21 years, where he served to mitigate natural disasters.

He loved music, especially jazz, and was very proud of the many concerts he attended and his time on stage with Gerry Mulligan who said, “hit it kid” to him.

Before choosing to attend A&M he considered pursuing a music career and played in a band.

He loved traveling and seeing things, especially Crete and Italy, and visited that area as often as he could. He also lived all over the world growing up including Africa, Turkey, and other exotic places.

He had a lifelong obsession with photography and shared that enthusiasm through videos on many occasions. More than anything else, he loved getting together with friends and family and sharing good food and good drink.

He is survived by his daughters, Carrie Gibson and Debbie Chapman, 4 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren, who would all like to thank his many friends and family who supported him in so many ways.

In lieu of flowers, Bob has asked that donations be made to Mosaic Ministries at this web address: https://mosaicchurch.churchcenter.com/giving/to/mosaic-street-ministry

A visitation for Robert will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
