November 22, 1954 - January 17, 2023

Sam Spurlock, age 68, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Hamilton Hospital in Olney, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, with Scotte Clarke, minister of Hamilton Street Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Sam was born on November 22, 1954, in Mineral Wells, Texas to Harold Truman Spurlock and Dorothy Coez (Putman) Spurlock. He attended Texas A & M University and graduated with his B.S. degree in 1977. He married Rebecca Messenger on March 22, 1981, in Longview, Texas. They moved from Kilgore, Texas to Olney, Texas in 1989 and became active in the school, church and community. He was a member of the Hamilton Street Church of Christ where he served as Elder. Sam was a former Ag teacher and taught Science at Olney Jr. High School for 33 years until his retirement. He was active in the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) where he served as State Officer for four years and State President for one year. He always took an active role in his children's and grandchildren's activities supporting them in any way he could. Sam was a huge fan of Aggie football, enjoyed camping and being outdoors, and enjoyed going to and watching baseball games.

Sam was preceded in death by his father, Harold Truman Spurlock, and two brothers, Mike Spurlock and Allan Spurlock.

Sam is survived by his mother, Coez Spurlock of Mineral Wells, Texas; his wife, Becky Spurlock of Olney, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Rachel Spurlock of Spring, Texas; one daughter, Shelley Spurlock and fiancé Robert Olds of Olney, Texas; seven grandchildren: Jackson Spurlock, Ben Spurlock, Madison Spurlock, Bailey Spurlock, David Spurlock, Rose Spurlock and Parker Olds; and one brother, Tommy Spurlock and wife Stacy of Perrin, Texas.
