William "Bill" Gober '55 January 31, 2023 2:38 PM updated: January 31, 2023 2:48 PM

William H. (Bill) Gober
March 19, 1934 - September 25, 2022

William (Bill) Gober was born March 19, 1934 in Mobeetie, TX and passed into the loving arms of Jesus on September 25, 2022 in Baytown, TX.

Bill Gober was a man to be admired. He was devoted to his wife of 62 years, Yvonne, before she passed away in 2016. When he said “til death do us part” on his wedding day, he meant it and kept his promise. He worked hard to take care of his family, and he did what was needed to provide for them. He went to night school to get an engineering degree at the University of Nebraska Omaha with 2 young boys under the age of 7 in order to advance at work. When a business he co-owned failed, he took jobs anywhere he could find work including out of town. Over the years he was a farm hand, cattle truck driver, surveyor, and engineer. He co-owned businesses in pipeline design & construction and employee leasing. Bill loved America and served in the US Army Reserves as an Artillery Officer. He raised 2 sons to have good moral character. He disciplined them when they did wrong, but he was also loving, gracious, and forgiving.

Bill was loyal to his beloved alma mater Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1955 with a degree in Agricultural Administration, and through the years he unwaveringly supported it’s athletic teams. He was a loyal friend, maintaining friendships from as far back as grade school. Bill and Yvonne lived in many places during their marriage and the friendships formed along the way remained until the day he died. He enjoyed playing bridge with Yvonne and anyone they could get to join them. Bill was an excellent cook, learning out of necessity when he was young as he cooked for the family while his parents worked. He loved his 2 grandchildren and his 4 great grandchildren, always praying for them and desiring the best for them. He was a Christ follower and is now reunited with Yvonne in heaven. The family would like to thank the caregivers at ADL Assisted Living in Baytown, TX for their compassionate care over the last 5 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne; parents, W.T. and Bessie; and an infant sibling, Bobby Gene.

Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Virginia Gober, of Amarillo, TX; sister, VaLoise Savage of Lubbock, TX; son, Greg Gober, of Deer Park, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Diane Gober, of Creswell, OR; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Services will be announced at a later date. His ashes will be placed at The Aggie Field of Honor in College Station.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to HopeWell Community Church (PO Box 191 Conroe, TX 77305) or The Art Center (1810 South Dumas Ave Dumas, TX 79029). Bill supported these organizations along with his home church and other charities throughout the years.
