David A. Knoll

November 5, 1950 - January 20, 2023

David Knoll passed away on January 20th, 2023. Dave was born in St. Louis Missouri on November 5th, 1950.

He graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering in 1973. He then attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Ocean Engineering in 1979.

He had a long career with Shell Oil Company as a project and design engineer for offshore production platforms and was instrumental in advancing the safety of offshore steel structures through his work with API committees.

He supported the Neartown Little League of Houston and served in several positions, including league president and as a volunteer umpire. Dave was very involved with his church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, through heading the Building and Grounds Committee and serving on a variety of supporting guilds.

He is survived by his wife Gail, his son Alex ’11 and his wife Sara ’14, his sister Karen and her husband Jack, his brother Ray and his wife Mary, and his brother Ken and his wife Bev, along with his extended family including numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Nelda and John Knoll.

A service will be held in his honor at 2pm on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Houston. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Baxter Knoll Family Ocean Engineering Endowment fund at Texas A&M University to support his desire to educate future generations of offshore engineers. http://give.am/BaxterKnollMemorial
