Margaret Ann McGuire

April 30, 1953 - December 17, 2022

Margaret Ann "Maggie" McGuire, age 69, died in Rome, Georgia on December 17, 2022. She was born in Quantico, Virginia on April 30, 1953, to a career Marine pilot and a nurse, the late Samuel F. Martin and late Evelyn Enners Martin.

Maggie earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina in 1975, and a Master of Education degree in 1988 and a Doctor of Education degree in 2001, both from Texas A&M University.

A career educator, she taught kindergarten for many years before teaching at the university level at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, Sam Houston State University, and Texas A&M University - College Station.

She was an avid quilter and gave presentations on different aspects of quilting-related history. Maggie was a member of the Lavender Mountain Quilt Guild and enjoyed making Quilts of Valor to honor veterans for their service.

Maggie is survived by her husband of 47 years, John; her older brother Michael and wife Barbara of Lake Forest, California; son John, wife Shari, and grandchildren Tucker and Hudson of Clarksville, Tennessee; son Charlie of Houston, Texas; and son Michael, wife Tamara, and grandchildren Campbell, Norah, and Kate of Rome, Georgia.

Maggie's remains will be interred in the Beaufort, South Carolina National Military Cemetery on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to local animal shelters.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, makes this announcement for the family.
