August 2, 1929 - December 16, 2022

Charles Donald Schmidt was born on August 2, 1929, in Kerrville, Texas to David and Corinthia Schmidt. He passed from this life on December 16, 2022, at the age of 93.

He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, father and mother, David and Cornthia Schmidt, brother Harold Schmidt, brother-in-law William “Bill” Jonas, father-in-law, and mother-law- Forest and Vera Strentz, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Clayton and Merle Massey.

He is survived by his children and their spouses Chuck and Teppi Schmidt, Patricia and Lonnie Marquardt. He is also survived by five grandchildren Britney Marquardt, Dustin and Morgan Creek, Caitlin and Zack Swick, Sarah Schmidt, and Charles D. Schmidt III. He is also survived by three great grandchildren Easton and Gentry Creek and Eli Daniel Swick. His sister Davene Jonas, sister-in-law Joe Schmidt, brother-in-law Lendon Parker, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gwen and Buddy Henderson also survive him.

He started his scholastic career at the White Bluff School. World War II was in full swing so at the beginning of the eleventh grade in the fall of 1944, with hopes of a more rigorous education and military training Charles was enrolled into the Peacock Military Academy (PMA) in San Antonio. He graduated from PMA in the 1945 and enrolled in Texas A&M College. He majored in Animal Husbandry and took Military Science as a part the Corps. He was an active member in San Angelo Aggie Club, Saddle and Sirloin Club and Aggie Rodeo Club. In his senior year he was second in command of Air Force Battalion B Flight and graduated in the spring of 1949 just before his twentieth birthday.

He joined the Air Force in February of 1954. He and Peggy finished his military service in Germany. As they were leaving Air Force Base Hospital with their new son, Chuck, the doctor said to them “See you next year” to which Charles replied “no, we are rotating.”

Charles and Peggy Lou Parker were married on October 3, 1953. Charles was loving, caring father and husband. He actively supported his children’s interests while managing a ranch and fulltime job. He retired from the USDA in 1989. He very much enjoyed his retirement. He was always looking outside the box in his ranch management. He was excited about the new “Old” management methods that he read about in various periodicals and actively shared that information with Chuck and Lonnie. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Peggy traveled to watch many volleyball, basketball and baseball games. He also coached his grandchildren that were participating in 4H shooting sports.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.

Services for Charles D. Schmidt will be held on January 11, 2023, visitation at 2 PM service at 3 PM at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg, Texas.
