Carlos M. Maggio of Kingwood, Texas passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022. He was born on February 29, 1936 (Leap Year), in Beaumont, Texas, the only son of Annie Dattalo Maggio and Mike Maggio.

Carlos graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont in 1954 and went on to earn a BS Degree in Geology from Lamar University in 1958 and a Master’s Degree in Geology from Texas A&M University in 1961.

He joined Humble Oil and Refining Company (Exxon Mobil) working in Houston, Tyler, Rosenberg, Midland, and Corpus Christi. His career was briefly interrupted when he entered the U. S. Army for training and then was recalled during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. After an eighteen-year career with Exxon, Carlos joined Coastal Oil and Gas Corporation (now Kinder Morgan) where he served as District Exploration Geologist and District Exploration Manager in Corpus Christi and Houston. Following retirement in 1999, Carlos became an adjunct instructor of physical geology at Kingwood College.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Dorothy E. Maggio; sisters Genevieve Catanzaro, Marie Maggio of Beaumont, Texas and Pearl Maggio of the Woodlands, Texas; step- son Edward W. Chisum and his wife Debbie of Porter; step grand- sons Lance Chisum and Randall A. Chisum, Jr, and great grandchildren Kaylee and Joshua of Tennessee; nephew Louis Catanzaro and his wife Reen, great nephew Kyle M. Catanzaro and great-great niece Kinsey Catanzaro. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Lucille M. Ochoa and stepson Randy Chisum.

Carlos remained an avid outdoor sportsman, loving upland bird hunting and skeet shooting. He was most interested in introducing new shooters to skeet and he enjoyed introducing young people to rock and mineral collecting. He is a member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church, the American Association of Petroleum Geologist, the Houston Geological Society, the Corpus Christi Geological Society, Lifetime Fitness, and the NRA.

Funeral Services will be held at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. Visitation will be Sunday, December 18, 2022, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. and a Rosary at 5:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held Monday, December 19, 2022, in the chapel at 10:00 am with burial with military honors at 11:00 am.

Pallbearers include Kyle Catanzaro, Lance Chisum, John Ehrman, John LaBarbera, Phillip LaBarbera, Ed Ochoa, and Kevin Ross.

Honorary Pallbearers will be best friend Maurice Ross and nephew Louis Catanzaro.

Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research or the charity of choice.

Carlos was a kind, gentle man who loved his family and friends and he will be dearly missed.
