Carl Franklin Basden
February 25, 1927 - November 11, 2022
Carl "Doodad" Franklin Basden was born in Irving, Texas to Delbert and Clara Basden. He attended Irving High School and Texas A&M College. He paused his education to serve in the Merchant Marines. After the war, he returned to A&M to earn a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1952. He was commissioned in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Knox Kentucky attaining the rank of Captain.
While in Kentucky, he met his bride, Frances Young. They were married on October 23, 1954 and had three children whom all adored their parents.
The family were founding members of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Burleson.
In business, Carl was a successful dairy farmer, real estate broker and a breeder and trainer of race horses. He was also an excellent golfer, a beloved little league coach, and would clean you out in poker. Later in life he watched every western shown on the Grit Channel and was always looking forward to the next domino game. He remained an avid Aggie to the end.
A family visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday 11/16 at St. Ann's Hampton Hall with Rosary at 11:30 followed by a graveside service at Laurel Land Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
Carl was preceded in death by Frances, his wife of 65 years.
He is survived by sons Bruce Basden and his wife Sherrell, Barney Basden and his wife Teresa and daughter Rebecca Stricklin and husband Steve along with ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
