David T. Fowler 

March 27, 1942 - December 19, 2022

David T. Fowler, 80, of Woodland Park NJ, formerly of Upper Montclair, NJ, passed away on December 19th, 2022. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday December 28, at St. Cassian’s R.C. Church in Upper Montclair, interment at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair. Visiting hours Tuesday December 27th from 4-7pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair.

David was born on March 27, 1942 to Benjamin and Leola Fowler. He grew up in Wichita Falls, TX with his siblings Don, Rosemary and Joe. David attended Wichita Falls High School where he was a guard & linebacker for his high school’s 1958 State Champion football team.

After graduating, David went on to receive his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1964, while also serving as Battalion Staff. He was commissioned an Officer in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and honorably served in Vietnam. David then returned to Texas A&M where he earned his masters degree in civil engineering. Dave was the first of three brothers to graduate from Texas A&M.

David met his beautiful wife Ruth while working at Levett Brothers in Long Island, NY. They were married in Manhasset, NY on September 16, 1972 and soon relocated to Montclair NJ. They went on to have two children, Katherine Ruth and John David. They had a loving marriage for 40 years. David was an active parishioner & usher for many years at St. Cassian Church. He was a devoted father who spent much of his free time managing swim meets and being a devoted fan on football & lacrosse fields. David was a loving grandfather (“Pop Pop”) to his grandchildren who were truly the light of his life. David had a heart of gold and was beloved by all that knew him.

He is survived by his children Katherine Rizzo and her husband Nick, John Fowler, and his wife Donna, by his siblings Donald Fowler and his wife Joyce, Joe Fowler and his wife Linda, by his brother-in-law Thomas Crum and by his five grandchildren, Alexa, Dylan, Vanessa, Heidi and Evelyn.

David was predeceased by his wife Ruth (nee Langdon) in 2012, by his parents Benjamin and Leola Fowler, and by his sister Rosemary Crum.
