Harold Glenn Coppedge

March 1, 1937 - October 21, 2022

Harold Glenn Coppedge, aged 85 years, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022. He was born on March 1st, 1937 to Liston Glenn Coppedge and Coy Jane Coppedge in Dallas, Texas.

Harold married Mary Frances Vogel on August 27th, 1965. He was a loving husband, provider, and father to five children.

He is preceded in death by his parents Liston G. and Coy J. Coppedge, sister Betty J. Moss, and his loving wife of 55 years, Mary F. Coppedge.

Harold is survived by his beloved children; daughters: Carrie J. Coppedge Marshall, Kristi L. Coppedge Underwood, and Marcy L. Forderhase Dixon: sons: Kent G. Coppedge, and Marc A. Forderhase; brother-in-law Philip G. Vogel; sister-in-law, Olevia A. Vogel; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Harold loved serving as a deacon in his church at First Baptist Richardson for many years. He also spent a good portion of his life singing in the choir at Highland Baptist and First Baptist Richardson. He was a devoted member of the O’Neal Men’s Sunday School Class “AMEN”. He frequented the F.B.R. Activity Center where he bested his opponents in racquetball. He enjoyed the camaraderie and building bonds with friends on the court. He was an Inreach Leader as well as Outreach Visitation Volunteer. He greatly enjoyed being a witness to others for Christ.

Harold attended Stephen J. Hay where he met the love of his life Mary Frances, affectionately known to him as Murray. They both attended North Dallas High School, where they would meet each and every day on the front steps so he could carry her books. Harold and Mary enjoyed mutual friends of which they continued to meet with over the decades, including many a reunion and dinner.

Harold attended Texas A&M University. He encompassed what it meant to be an Aggie. Harold graduated The Class of 1959 with his Civil Engineering degree granted in 1960. As a proud member of the Corps, he served Reveille well and represented the Twelfth Man in a distinguished manner. He would lull his children to sleep with the Aggie War Hymn. “WHOOP!”

Raising his children in the home, he held weekly prayer, scripture and song alongside his wife, always ending the night singing “Onward Christian Soldiers' '. Every Christmas it was his privilege of reading the Christmas Story from the book of Luke. Family vacations were always spent on the water whether it be Lake Murray or Galveston.

Over the years raising their five children, and attending church, they shared a passion for sailing. Mary was Captain and Harold was First Mate. Going on many adventures to the British Virgin Islands, and last an amazing adventure cruise to Alaska. More than anything, Harold just loved being with Mary, she made his life complete. They were blessed with a marriage and love that very few find in life.

Harold enjoyed a full life giving and caring for his family, most importantly, he wanted assurance that his family all had a strong foundation in Christ Jesus.

A visitation for Mr. Harold Coppedge will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 5p-7p at Restland Funeral Home.
