Charles Pate Pecora

May 30, 1931 - September 14, 2022

Charles Pate Pecora, 91, passed away in Houston on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Born May 30, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas to Tony and Lucille Pecora, he grew up in a loving family with an older sister named Mary Louise. Mr. Pecora was a man of great faith, loved his family and friends, loved his country, was a successful businessman, and enjoyed life.

He grew up in the Catholic faith and was a member and vestry member at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Houston for over 55 years.

He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1955 and from Texas A&M with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1957. Charles is a proud Aggie and member of the Texas A&M Association of Graduates.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War.

Charles met his beloved wife, Betty Lou Fitzhugh, while at SMU, and they were married in 1955.

They had three sons, Charles Pate Pecora, Jr., Tony Pecora, and Mark Pecora. After Betty Lou passed away, Charles remarried to his beloved wife Sue Bone Harris in 1993. Sue has two children, Nancy Haysom, and Wes Harris, and together Charles and Sue have eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

For his first job out of college, Charles was a plant engineer at a chemical processing plant in Southern Texas, and he and his family lived in Kingsville. He moved to Houston in 1965 and became a manufacturer’s representative. He started his own chemical processing equipment sales company and worked there for over forty years, until he was 90 years old.

Over his life, Charles loved sports, especially baseball, and he was an avid fan of the Houston Astros and an Aggie football fan. He enjoyed playing golf and bird hunting. He loved traveling with Sue, and they saw a lot of the world together. They loved to travel with friends, eat fine meals, and drink great wine.

Charles is preceded by his parents Tony and Lucille Pecora, his sister Mary Louise Pryor, and his first wife Betty Lou. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sue; his three sons, Charles Pate Pecora, Jr., Tony, and Mark; his and Sue’s ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St Theresa Catholic Church in Memorial Park at 6622 Haskell Street, Houston, Texas 77007. There will be a visitation there at 9:15 AM for those who would like to attend before the service. Internment will be the same day at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 4955 Pine St., Beaumont, TX 77703.

Pallbearers for the service will be Elizabeth Pecora, Sam Pecora, Camilla Pecora, Charlie Pecora, Peter Pecora (Honorary), Derek Haysom, John Haysom, Susan Haysom, Katherine Harris (Honorary) and Benjamin Harris (Honorary).

 

The family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
