Roy Harold Markwardt
October 17, 1933 - December 7, 2022

Roy Harold Markwardt passed in peace on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 surrounded by his family and their love.

Roy was born on October 17, 1933, in Palacios, Texas, where he spent his early years. It is there he met the love of his life, Lou Cavallin. The couple soon became inseparable and were married on July 15, 1953. After a short honeymoon, Roy moved his new bride to College Station, Texas where he was attending Texas A&M University and proudly served as Commander of Squadron 23 in the Corps of Cadets. Roy received his degree in Industrial Education in 1955 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force (USAF). Roy ultimately retired from the USAF Reserves at the rank of Captain.

Roy told his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren numerous tall tales of his “adventures, inventions and achievements” - the toothpick, the microwave, Indian arrowhead excavations at the ranch, and stories of shrapnel in his leg. Roy’s real accolades however, far surpass his claims – he was an Air Force jet pilot, a successful businessman, Captain of the Lady Lou, a cigar enthusiast, avid RV’er, a keen hunter at his Weedy Creek ranch, a fighting Texas Aggie, a lollipop aficionado, and most importantly, the beloved patriarch of his family. Roy’s family will especially miss the gleam in his eye when he was up to a little mischief.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lou; his daughter, Teri Lynn Markwardt; his son Roger Craig Markwardt; his daughter, Kristin Lynette Markwardt Cennamo; as well as eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, who will miss his sage advice, family dinners, followed by pay-per-view movies and giant bowls of ice cream and a lollipop!

Services to honor Roy will be held December 13, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Holt and Holt Funeral Home in Boerne, Texas followed by graveside services. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on December 12, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the staff of Holt & Holt Funeral Home of Boerne. To share words of comfort with the family, please visit www.holtfh.com
