Lynn Michelle Melancon
December 9, 1964 - April 5, 2022

Lynn Michelle Melancon, DVM, passed away peacefully on April 5 in her home in Ashville, NC. She was born in Harrogate, England on December 9. Her childhood was spent in New Orleans, LA.

She first expressed her lifelong interest in caring for animals at the age of 9 while camping in the piney woods of LA and observing the interplay of animals in the forest.

Lynn moved to Denver, CO in 1976 with her mother, Karen Cambias. Her love of nature and animals grew in the Rocky Mountains. She moved to Houston in 1979 when her life with her stepdad Donald Lehto, her Dad, began. She graduated from Lamar High School with honors.

She graduated from Texas A&M Veterinary & Biomedical Science College in 1989 with honors.

Her faith in God was steadfast and was a guiding force in her life. Family and friends recall her strength and resilience. She was respected for her compassion for animals and her surgical skills throughout her life. Coworkers often noted her remarkable communication skills with animals.

She is preceded in death by Donald Lehto. She is survived by her daughter Katya Shmorhun and her mother Karen Cambias.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 30, at The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, TX 77019.
