Scott Hinson Cavitt won his battle on December 5, 2022 in Scott, Louisiana after bravely navigating two difficult journeys with cancer. He was born on September 29, 1956 in Georgetown, Texas and was the son of Kathryn Janet Hinson Cavitt and the late Sheridan D. Cavitt, Jr.

Scott moved with his family to Harker Heights, Texas in 1967. Later, he excelled in sports, played little league baseball, varsity football, and helped win the UIL Texas State track and field competition as anchor of the Killeen High School 440-relay team. His skill on the track earned him the nickname “White Lightning”.  In high school, Scott participated in the Kiwanis “Key Club”, Latin Club, student government, was named “most handsome” on more than one occasion, served as a member in the National Honor Society, and graduated with honors from Killeen High School in 1975.

That same year, Scott received a congressional appointment to attend the United States West Point Military Academy and become a member of their track team. He instead selected to attend Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing in 1978.

After graduation, Scott was based in Houston and traveled extensively throughout Latin America as a supplier for Wilson Industries, Inc.  Later, he worked for Prudential Securities as a financial advisor. He met the love of his life, Vickie Doucet, while working at Submar, Inc. and then was married in Lafayette on December 21, 1985. Scott and Vickie established their own thriving company, Rehab Billing Specialists of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Scott was a great communicator and easily captivated the attention of any audience. He served as publisher and editor of the Louisiana Medical News for over 10 years and was a Contributing Financial Commentator to Citadel Broadcasting for 12 years. An avid reader, Scott was a life-long learner. He loved his family and their fishing vacations and was a devout member of the Catholic faith.

Scott will be missed by the many who loved him, his big heart, and his quick wit. Surviving him are his wife, Vickie; his children, Brandy Elizabeth Cavitt and wife Carla Hester; and Katie Cavitt Albarado and husband, Sam of Lafayette, Louisiana. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Aubrey Helen and Sophie Kathryn Albarado; his mother, Kathryn Janet Cavitt of Canyon Lake, Texas; his caring parents-in-law, Patricia and Aubrey Doucet of Scott, Louisiana; and his sisters, Carrie and Steve Roderick of Irving, Texas; Mary Ellen Cavitt and Beth Bronk of New Braunfels, Texas; and Susan and Roberto Quan of Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be James Keith Doucet, Sam Albarado, Paul Baudoin, Josh Dahlen, Ryan Pierce and Megan Arceneaux.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Aubrey Doucet and James Michael Doucet.

Special thanks to James A. and Patricia Doucet for opening their home and hearts and to the dedicated healthcare providers for their compassionate care.
