Alvin R. Luedecke, Jr.
November 22, 1942 - September 25, 2022

Alvin Roubal Luedecke, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 79 on September 25, 2022.

Alvin was loved by many, and his memory will be cherished by all whose lives he touched. He was loving, fun, smart, inspiring, kind, and always had an undeniable twinkle in his eyes.

Alvin was born in Miami Beach, Florida, on November 22, 1942, to Gussie Lee (Calhoun) Luedecke of Grapeland, Texas, and Alvin R. Luedecke of Eldorado, Texas. He did most of his growing up in Falls Church, Virginia, with frequent trips to Texas to be with family. He graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland.

He went on to attend Texas A&M University. Alvin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering. Amidst his college years, he also served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, Texas, and at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, South Dakota.

It was while stationed at Bergstrom AFB that he met his wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann (Larson) Luedecke of Austin, Texas. They were married in 1966 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Austin. In marriage, they were known for their deep love for one another, support, and partnership.

Alvin had a long career with the Texas Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer working in various positions in El Paso, Lufkin, and Austin. He retired as Director of Transportation Planning and Programming after 34 years of service with the department. He continued consulting for several years, and, in full retirement, went on to serve on various neighborhood, church, and community committees.

He was a loving and devoted father to his daughters, Hope and Joy, and a fun and supportive grandfather to his four granddaughters, Emily, Ava, Greta, and Presley.

In his free time, he loved woodworking, fixing cars, hunting, flying remote-controlled airplanes, operating a community weather station, and spending time with family and friends. He liked to have fun no matter what and was up for trying pretty much anything once.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gussie Lee and Alvin Luedecke, and his sister Jan (Luedecke) Maynard.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Luedecke; daughter Joy England; daughter and husband Hope and Kurt Carlson; granddaughters Emily England, Presley England, Ava Carlson, and Greta Carlson; sister Miriam (Mibby) Luedecke; as well as cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.

A memorial service celebrating Alvin’s life will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church, 4010 Williams Dr, Georgetown, TX 78628.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Alvin’s name to the American Cancer Society or Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown.
