Katharine Louise Harrison Bricker was born on July 8, 1947 in Waco, Texas to John Howard “Jack” and Elizabeth Josephine “Betty Jo” Harrison. She was the oldest of three beautiful daughters born into the Harrison family and was raised on the J Bar J Ranch of Lexington, Texas. Her sisters, Dianne and Rebecca, were always close friends throughout her life. Her large extended family of loved ones holds a dearer place in her heart than just terms such as “cousin”. The entire Parker Clan are considered family and her cousins are truly her best friends.

She married Joe Bricker, her high school sweetheart, on July 16, 1965 and they have celebrated 57 years together. Katharine and Joe attended Texas A&M until Joe graduated. She then completed her Bachelor of Elementary Education from Texas Women’s University. During this early time in their marriage, they were blessed with three children, Patrick, JoLyn, and Jennifer.

Katharine devoted 46 years of her life to the children and families of Lexington as an educator in the Lexington Independent School District. She taught 2nd and 4th grades, developed the Gifted & Talented Program, and served in administrative roles as the Lexington Elementary Principal, District Curriculum Director, and High School Assistant Principal. She obtained her Masters of Administration Degree through Texas A&M University in 1992. Her efforts to improve the quality of education and the learning environment of children in our district made a lasting impact on the community. Countless lives were impacted as she guided students to develop and strive for their true potential. To so many students that knew her as teacher or principal, she will forever be remembered by her “signature smell” of Shalimar perfume.

Katharine’s faith in the Lord has been a constant in her life and she lived out that faith through service. Katharine was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Lexington. She played the piano for other community churches as well.

Community service was important to her. She was a long-time member of the Lee County Lions Club and the Lee County Cemetery Association.

Quilting became a creative outlet that Katharine learned while she was a caregiver for her aging parents. This passion brought her much joy as one of her most favorite pastimes and provided many special friendships. The quilts she meticulously crafted are some of her children’s most treasured gifts.

One of her most favorite roles was that of “Marmi”. She had a way of seeing the best in each of her grandchildren and loving them for who they were. You would often find her watching their sporting events, “junking” with the girls, taking them to get pedicures and manicures, attending school functions and spending time doing whatever made her grandchildren happy. She was their most beloved Marmi.

She entered into the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ on September 12, 2022 in a Bryan hospital.

Katharine Bricker is preceded in death by her grandparents, Pinkie Louise and Joseph John Parker & Katharine and John Howard Harrison; her parents, Elizabeth Josephine and John Howard III Harrison, and Mrs. Rebecca “Babbo” Lewis, a cousin that became her second mother.
