Jimmie Weedon

March 30, 1933 - September 28, 2022

James Elmo "Jimmie" Weedon Jr., 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 28. He left this earth very peacefully and quietly with his bed surrounded by members of his loving family.

Jimmie was born on March 30, 1933, in Dallas Texas. His parents, Elmo and LaVada Weedon adored him as their only child. He grew up on his parents' ranch, the Bar W, in the Harvey Community of Brazos County where he continued to live and work throughout his adult life. He was married to Madaleen Gebauer Morris for 48 years and they have been long time members of Central Church in College Station.

Jimmie graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1950 and Allen Academy Junior College in 1952, both in Bryan. He attended Texas A&M College and he bled maroon.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jimbo Weedon and his stepdaughter, Vicki Morris.

He is survived by his wife, his angel and soulmate Madaleen; his daughter, Michelle Colwell and her husband Robby of Bryan and stepdaughters Cheri Mohr of College Station and Terri Gille of College Station. Also, his grandchildren: Chase Colwell and wife, Jaimie of Bryan; Taylor Colwell and wife, Charlene of Babbitt, Minnesota; Jordan Thomas and husband, Pat of Kingwood, Texas and Josh Mohr and wife, Blair of Kingwood, Texas. Jimmie and Madaleen were blessed with eight great grandchildren.

Later in life, Jimmie met his half siblings, Jack Carter Anderson of Seattle, Washington; Jill Anderson Stephenson of Katy, Texas and Jann Anderson Colls of Kerrville, Texas. Jimmie was thrilled also to meet his nephews George H. Stephenson and Greg B. Stephenson of Katy, Texas and Jim Crandall of Logansport, Louisiana. Meeting this family was an added blessing after being raised by the most loving adoptive parents

Jimmie was baptized in a pond next to Elmo Weedon Road on the family ranch by Rev. Milton Maloney in 1944. His first memorized Bible scripture was John 3:16 which he learned at Vacation Bible School at Bethel Baptist Church in the Harvey Community where his family had attended since the founding of the church in 1870.

Every year, Jimmie waited anxiously for deer season so he could try to get "the big one". Another great pleasure of his was playing golf with his buddies. Anyone who knew Jimmie knew his love for Texas Aggie Football. His fondest memory was of A&M beating Alabama in 2012 in Tuscaloosa. He was a faithful fan of the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys. He had many friends from high school and from throughout his life and he enjoyed meeting with all of them regularly. He also loved the weekly cattle auction at Bryan Livestock Commission where he was a very loyal customer and where he had many friends. He was known in ranching circles as one of the best cattlemen around, though he was always humble about his skill and knowledge.

Jimmie was always involved with his community and loved giving back and he especially loved helping youth. He coached in the Bryan Little League baseball organization for seven years and made the Weedon Ballpark for Harvey Little League possible. He volunteered with 4-H, and he and Madaleen were generous to KOR Education School in College Station and Still Creek Ranch in Brazos County. In addition to these organizations, he served in his younger years as President of Area III Young Farmers and as a State Officer. He was named the Brazos County Outstanding Young Farmer. Jimmie served as a Director of Producers Co-Op and was a charter member of the Aggie Quarterback Club. He was a supporter of the Precinct 3 Fire Department, and was on the steering committee and served as the first president of Wixon Water Supply in 1969. Wixon Water started with 500 customers and now has over 8000 metered customers.

The Weedon family is grateful to the family, friends and caregivers that have surrounded Jimmie with love and care these past few months, especially Hospice Brazos Valley, Mary Kunkle with HealthQuest, Alma Lagrone, Robert and Janet Hicks, and Dr. Dan Smart.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 5, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home, 3001 S. College Ave., Bryan. A Celebration of and Tribute to Jimmie's Life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2:00 pm at Central Church, 1991 FM 58, College Station. You are welcome to wear an Aggie shirt or maroon if you like. A private family committal service will be held at a later date.
