John Jackson '88 December 7, 2022 9:40 AM updated: December 7, 2022 9:46 AM

John Maritt Jackson
January 24th, 1966 - September 18th, 2022

John was born in Dallas, Texas, January 24, 1966, and he succumbed to illness on September 18, 2022, in Austin. He was 56 years old at the time of death. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lezlie Jackson and daughters, Christine and Elizabeth Jackson of Austin, Texas, and his brother Paul Jackson of Delray Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents George Wesley Jackson and Beverly Ann Jackson of Georgetown, Texas.

John graduated from W. T. White High School in Dallas where he discovered his passion in technical theater and debate. He was also a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '88. While at A&M he worked for the Aggie Club and wrote their first ticket management system. John and Lezlie met at a football game in Kyle Field in fall of '88. They married in August of 1990 and moved to Austin in 1991.

John would describe himself as a servant leader. He served as a volunteer firefighter, and board member of the Emergency Services District for Ce-Bar Fire Department for 20+ years. He served on the tech crew at Westlake Bible Church, AKA Austin Ridge Bible Church for over 20 years also. John was a dedicated member of Westlake Rotary Club and volunteered many hours to this club, he took to heart the Rotary motto "Ser-vice above Self".

John owned and operated Renaissance Systems, Inc. from 2001-2018, where he started as an employee in 1991. Many of his employees and clients felt more like family than customers. There were other entrepreneurial ventures, some successful and some not, but as a lifelong learner he just kept trying.

John had a very unique sense of humor. His wryness was thoroughly enjoyed by his communicants, but was a mystery to the uninitiated. In other words, John could raise a smile, a laugh, or a smirk on almost all. We will miss his ultra-dry wit.

When John was not working, he enjoyed mowing his lawn with a very big zero turn Kubota mower, swimming, petting his cats and traveling. We packed as much as we could into the last few years with trips to New York, Jamaica, Panama Canal, and the Grand Canyon.

A memorial service will be held at Austin Ridge Bible Church on October 15, 2022, at 11:00 am with lunch to follow. John will be interred in the family plot in Goldthwaite, Texas, beside his parents and grandparents. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Ce-Bar Fire Department or your favorite charity.
