Malcolm Curtis Douglass
December 6, 1930 - October 31, 2022

Malcolm Curtis Douglass, 91, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, in Abingdon, Virginia.

He was born on December 6, 1930, in Pampa, Texas, a son of the late Curtis and Nadine Douglass.

Malcolm graduated from Pampa TX High School in 1949. He then graduated from Texas A & M University in 1953 where he played basketball his freshman year and golf all four years. He was a letterman and captain of the golf team in 1952 and 1953. Malcolm then went on to attend the University of Texas School of Law and graduated with his J.D. in 1956. After graduation he served as an Assistant Attorney General of the State of Texas under Attorney General John Ben Shepherd and then served as an officer in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps of the United States Air Force.

Following military service, Malcolm was a lawyer in private practice in his hometown for 40 years. He was an ardent supporter of the local youth—for decades he coached in the local Pee Wee (elementary school) basketball program, the hometown Swim Team, taught Sunday School at the Pampa First United Methodist Church, and spent countless hours at lunchtime pick-up basketball games and week-end tennis matches at the local High School. He mentored every youth golfer who was out on the course. He attended all his children’s music, education, and sports activities.

He was a long-time member of the local Pampa Kiwanis Club and the Pampa First United Methodist Church. Beginning in 1966, he dedicated his time, his service, and his resources to the Amarillo Speech, Hearing and Language Center.

He enjoyed spending time with his family in Colorado and New Mexico skiing, hiking, golfing and being outdoors. He was particularly partial to the YMCA of the Rockies at Estes Park, Colorado. Later in his life, he was blessed to experience the Appalachian part of the Country.

His beloved wife Margie was at his bedside at his passing. He was much loved, and he will be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Douglass of Abingdon, Virginia; four children, Dixie (Frank) Szalejko of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Stacy (Joe) Brown of Spicewood, Texas, Kristen Manning, North Richland Hills, Texas and Clay (Beth) Douglass of Cypress, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Sharon (Robert) Torrison, Debbie (Matthew) Kirinovic, Scott (Emilie) Szalejko, Lindsay (Eric) Verbit, Meredith Brown, Douglass Brown, David Grice, Curtis (Katherine) Grice, Casey Grice, Andrew (Ashley) Douglass and Catherine Douglass; seven great grandchildren, Tessa Torrison, Wyatt Torrison, Adam Kirinovic, Kate Kirinovic, Luke Kirinovic, Spencer Szalejko and Grayson Verbit; two stepsons, Christopher (Jessica) Bandy and Adam (Jody) Bandy; four step grandchildren, Michael Bandy, Olivia Bandy, Rylei Bandy and Ryder Bandy.

Following cremation, inurnment will be held in College Station, Texas.
