Roll Call Tribute

Gerald Geoff George
February 20, 1968 - October 7, 2022

Geoff was born in Dayton, Ohio to Julia and Frank George with a brother Scott 5 years his senior.

Geoff was the son of an engineer and a nurse. He grew up surrounded by family - grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was literally born to be an engineer like his dad. From a very early age he loved all things puzzles, mechanical, mathematics and computers. He read voraciously throughout his life with old westerns or war history being favorite reading material. He also loved hiking, camping, playing football, wrestling, rugby and the ocean.

It was his love of the ocean that sent him from the Midwest to Texas A&M in Galveston to pursue a career working with and on ships as an engineer with plans to join the Navy on graduation. In the summer of his senior year he met the love of his life - Kelly.

While at the end of his first semester of his senior year he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma - late stages. He spent the next 1 1/2 years on chemotherapy and radiation fighting to survive. He also had to delay graduating and the Navy discharged him. But he won that battle and went on to start working as an engineer in the merchant marine. He and Kelly married in 1992.

He worked on ships for 5 years but his love for his wife was greater than his love for the sea which took him away for months on end so he went back for a masters degree from A&M. Being at A&M for so long - he bled maroon and white and was a lifelong die hard Aggie. He taught our children that ‘Your thumb says Gig ‘Em’ from an early age.

He took a job in Houston after getting his masters. He and Kelly had 5 children - Caleb, Aiden, Avery, Seth and Callie who were the absolute love of his life. They moved to the country in Magnolia in 2004. Geoff loved living on property instead of the suburbs. In 2020 another son was added in the form of our foster son Hunter bringing the child count to 6.

Geoff spent the years holding and playing with babies, building tree and blanket forts, carrying tired children when they didn’t want to walk, patching boo boos, helping with homework, coaching his kids teams (even when he didn’t know how and had to buy a ‘how to coach basketball for dummies’ book) and going on vacations with his family. He was the most involved father and husband that he could possibly be never missing a major event or even a minor one.

Geoff also loved being involved in his church and early in marriage before children their passion was children’s and youth ministry. He poured his heart and soul into ministering to youth. He loved connecting with teenagers and counseling them. Sharing his stories and mistakes but most importantly sharing God with them.

Because of Geoff’s love for his children when he was diagnosed with cancer yet again he decided he didn’t want to waste time on some bucket list for himself. He spent his last year spending as much time as possible with his children and wife doing things they and he loved to make memories.

He believed with all his heart that he would be healed. We all believe that his belief is what kept him around and in such good health for over a year after diagnosis when they told him not to expect more than 4 months.

His boss said it best. Geoff made us all better.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Frank and Mary George, HC and Anne Bever, Uncles Terry George and Ronald Bever.

He is survived by his wife Kelly, children Caleb and wife Veronika, Aiden, Avery, Seth, Callie and Hunter, parents Frank and Julia George, brother Scott and wife Sandra with their children Elisabeth, Sara and Debora, mother and father in-law Virginia and David Mullins, brother in law Brett and wife Suzanne with their children Amanda and Katie, brother in law Mike and wife Moye with their children Addie, Tyler and Carson as well as numerous other extended family.
