Benjamin Franklin Alford, Col. USAF Ret.
July 6, 1944 - September 21, 2022

Benjamin F. Alford, Colonel, USAF (Retired), passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at his home in Bulverde, TX. Benjamin was born on July 6, 1944, in San Antonio, TX to parents, Frank and Marjorie Alford.

Ben retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1992 after 26 years of service. His military career included time spent as a pilot, strategic bomber, and war planner but he was most engaged as an instructor pilot. Ben also enjoyed flying multiple aircrafts with his favorite being the AC-47 and B-52. He was awarded multiple medals and commendations for his contributions as a Vietnam War pilot and other missions throughout his career. As a command pilot his decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with two OLCs, Air Medal with five OLCs, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star (individual award).

Ben was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 1966; he was also a member of the Corps of Cadets. He received his Master of Science in Business Administration from Troy State University.

Ben was an avid foodie and loved trying new restaurants and fine wine. His favorite snacks were ice cream and donuts. He enjoyed gardening and took meticulous care of his yard. Ben’s favorite vacations were at the beach, Oahu being the best. His most cherished time was always spent with his family, especially his six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Alford and Marjorie Conway. Benjamin is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughter, Sarah Smith-Franks and husband Jeff; daughter, Emily Fey and husband Jake; daughter, Molly Cator and husband Chase; grandchildren, Emalee, Dylan, Kyle, Lily, Bronson, and Alison; sister, Katie Counts; sister, Sue Alford; niece, Kathy Fowler.

Services with Air Force Honors will be private at the family residence.
