Millard F. Schewe, Jr.

July 28, 1937 - November 23, 2019

Millard was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 28, 1937, to Helen Lone (Harrison) and Millard Ferdinand Schewe. He loved the snowy winters and spending summers fishing with Grandmother Harrison and visiting his Schewe grandparents’ farm. When “Fritz” (his family nickname) was thirteen, the Schewes moved to Houston. He attended Pershing Junior High and Lamar High School. He was on the swim team at both schools. While at Pershing his mother died. His father next married Helen Nesbit. Following his graduation from Lamar in 1955, Millard enrolled in Texas A&M College.

Millard was a member of the Corps of Cadets at A&M and was assigned to “A” Ordnance his senior year. As a freshman, Millard was a member of the freshman swim team. In May of 1959 Milliard graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.

After graduation Millard served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Lewis Washington for two years. There he enjoyed snow and water skiing, fishing, and mountain climbing. Some of the mountains he climbed included Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Rainier.

After his army service, Millard and his first wife, Linda Olson, moved to California. While living in Sunnyvale, California their son, Millard III, and daughter, Mary Helen, were born.

Milliard worked at Sylvania, Lockheed, and Hewlett-Packard and then at Measurex and other computer-related companies for thirty years. Early in his career, he worked on the SR 71 “Blackbird” spy plane radar jammer. During this period he worked in the infamous Area 51. While living in Sunnyvale he invented a Signal Processor with Jerry McCoy and Marv Laymon. Millard went on to earn an MBA and a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University. He was an avid and expert sailor sailing small boats in San Francisco Bay.

In 1993, Millard married his former high school sweetheart, Tommie Lu Storm Maulsby. He worked in Milpitas at ASYST Technologies. Millard retired in 1995 while they lived at The Sea Ranch, CA where he was a “Ham” radio operator and a firefighter with The Sea Ranch Volunteer Fire Department. He graduated from The School of Fine Woodworking in Mendicino and built beautiful furniture.

In 2004 Millard and Tommie Lu moved to Pearland, Texas. After 2004 they spent weekends at their newly acquired farm in the Chappell Hill/Brenham area.

Sadly, in 2007 Millard was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. On November 21, 2018, Millard and Tommie Lu celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Milliard Schewe passed away on November 23, 2019.
