William Scott Blessing, M.D.
December 16, 1945 - August 26, 2022

Scott passed away at Faith Presbyterian Hospice after a lengthy illness and several brief hospital stays. He was a Dallas native, born at Florence Nightingale Hospital to William and Elizabeth Blessing. Scott attended Hillcrest High School, class of 1964, Texas A&M, class of 1968, and Southwestern Medical School, class of 1973. He specialized in Anesthesia. Dr. Blessing practiced cardiovascular anesthesia in the Dallas metroplex for many years. He became board certified in anesthesia and critical care medicine.

Scott sustained a serious traumatic injury playing college football. Denton Cooley performed a life and limb saving graft on his leg. Years after the surgery, they remained in contact with each other. Scott lived a full life and showed a great determination to excel - enjoying his extended family, working out, an eclectic musical taste, sailing, Harley Davidson trips, and collecting art. However, he was most dedicated to the practice of cardiovascular anesthesia. It gave him great pride to take care of extremely ill patients and contribute to their quality of life.

Scott is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lisa and their son, Gus, as well as son, Waylon and daughter, Brooke and three granddaughters. He is also survived by his siblings- Brian and wife Sandy, Gail and husband Richard, and Bill and wife Marlene.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, aides, and support staff who cared for Scott during his illness. Special thanks to Dr. Robert Israel, Dr. Mark Unterberg, Dr. Steve Davis, Dr. Maxine Theriot, Dr. Richard Buch, Dr. Eric Chang-Tung, and Dr. Shannon Payseur, and all the angels of hospice care.

Dr. Blessing donated his body to the Willed Body Program at Southwestern Medical School.

Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
