Joe Allen Parten
August 4, 1937 – August 20, 2022

Joe Allen Parten, 85, a gentle and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2022.

Joe was born in Waxahachie, TX on August 4, 1937. He graduated from Longview High School in 1955 where he played basketball and met his wife of 62 years, Dot (Freeman) Parten. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1959 where he was a proud member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and served his country in the U.S. Army reserves from 1959 to 1966.

Upon graduation, Joe started his career at Sears, where he worked for many years. Later he pursued a secondary career as a financial planner at Fidelity Investments.

He served his country in the U.S. Army reserves from 1959 to 1966

He was an active member of Central Christian Church in Richardson where he often served as a greeter, welcoming guests with a warm and friendly smile.

Joe enjoyed playing golf and had the opportunity to play on many scenic golf courses in Hawaii, California, and Asheville. He loved cheering on the Texas A&M Aggies football team and enjoyed attending games with the Travelling Aggies. When not playing golf or watching the Aggies, he could be found supporting his grandchildren, who knew him as Grandad, at their various sporting events. Joe was also known for his love of 50s music (especially Elvis), classic western TV shows, crossword puzzles, Jell-O salad, and chocolate cake.

He is predeceased by his mother, Sidna Flanagan of Longview. He is survived by his wife, Dot Parten, brother, John Parten and wife Sherry Parten, daughter and son-in-law Paula (Parten) Ricci and Jerome Ricci, son and daughter-in-law Scott and Dawn Parten, grandchildren, Alexis Ricci, Marissa Vehslage and husband John, Katherine Ricci, Drew Parten, Will Parten, and great-grandson Jack Vehslage.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.  

A celebration of life will be held for Joe at Central Christian Church, 1651 E Campbell Rd, Richardson, TX on September 10 at 2:00 pm.
