John Davis Turner, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 29, 2022. Johnny was born on July 11, 1948 in Bastrop, TX as his family was fishing the Colorado River when it was time for him to arrive. Johnny graduated from Lexington High School in 1966 and began college at Texas A&I on a basketball scholarship. He eventually transferred to Texas A&M University, graduating in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Technology. After graduation, he began working for Texas Power & Light in Hillsboro.

After transfers to Copperas Cove, Taylor, Sherman, and The Colony, he worked in Round Rock for 20 years in management, lobbying the last three years before retirement. After retiring and moving to Rockdale, he was hired by Luminant as a contract worker where he worked for several years.

John married Suzanne Coffey in December 1970, and added a daughter, Whitney in 1980. In 2003, he also gained a son-in-law, Woody West and eventually two granddaughters, Waverley in 2006 and Willa in 2009.

Preceded in death by his parents, June and J.D. Turner. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Whitney and husband Woody; granddaughters, Waverley and Willa. He also leaves siblings, Gloria Jackson, Brenda Berndt, and Justin Turner, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Johnny enjoyed playing tennis, golf, hunting, Aggie sports, and working on his ranch. He also spent many years at the high school basketball tournament in Austin with his friends.

He was a country boy, a man of faith, loved his family, had great leadership qualities, and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all. Many thanks to Traditions Home Health and Hospice. Over the past years, there have been so many wonderful helpers, too many to recall. But mention is made of the last four helping him, Mrs. Gala and Chelsea at Traditions, Anjanette Hawkins, and Kiewan Merrill.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will follow in Burns Cemetery in Blue. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
