February 2, 1943 - August 27, 2022

Dr. Raymond Chancellor, 79 years, of Southlake, TX passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2022 in a local hospital one week after returning from a fabulous trip with his wife to the islands surrounding Scotland.

He was born in Houston, TX however was raised in Waco, TX. Ray married Dinah Rice on July 21, 1967 in Topeka, Kansas. Ray graduated from La Vega High School, class of 1961. He attended Texas A&M University on a football scholarship and graduated with a science degree in 1965. Ray continued his education at A&M receiving both his Masters and Ph.D. in Education Administration. Ray would embark on a career in the education field for 35 years. In the classroom, Ray taught all the sciences in a few districts moving into administration as Assistant Superintendent in Denton ISD then onto Superintendent of College Station ISD for nine years. Ray completed his educational career as Director of Region 11 for eight years, retiring in 2000.

Ray learned about and then developed a love of ornithology and watercolor painting from his father-in-law, Orville O. Rice. That passion produced beautiful artwork that has been showcased in local art shows, magazines and in friends' and family's homes. Hobbies continue with wood working, building furniture, photography, genealogy, ecology hikes and teaching anyone who would listen to appreciate and respect nature. Ray was an active member of the Grapevine Garden Club, conducting ecology hikes in the Grapevine and Southlake areas, and being a founding member of Southlake Ornithology Society. Ray was a Board of Directors Emeritas for Bob Jones Nature Center.

Ray and Dinah loved to travel and visited all seven continents. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Dinah Rice Chancellor. Sons: Dr. Jeff David Chancellor (Jessica) of Waco, TX and Dr. Jon Eric Chancellor (Michelle) of Kerrville, TX. Grandchildren: Amanda Ping (Justin), Kimberly O'Malley (Noah), Nick Chancellor, Ian Chancellor and Adam Chancellor, one great-granddaughter: Aria Ping, four mos. Sister-in-law: Kathy Rice Parsons (Kip) of Springfield, MO Nephew: Robbie Parsons, Nieces: Beth Reinbold and Jenny Parsons.

Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday September 11, 2022 from 2 pm to 4 pm (come and go) with a special dedication at 3 pm. Location: Paradise Cove overlooking Lake Grapevine. 3029 Midway Rd, Southlake, TX 76092.
