Dr. Charles Rodney Butler
December 2, 1936 - May 13, 2022

Dr. Charles Rodney Butler, DVM, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022, at his home in Haughton, LA. He was born December 2, 1936 in Shreveport, LA to Frank & Bilahrene Butler. He graduated from Sulphur High School, and went on to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University.

He practiced veterinary medicine for over 50 years, and at one time was considered one of the best diagnostic vets in treating lame horses. He practiced in Stillwater, OK, Plano & McKinney, TX, and at Louisiana Downs, Delta Downs & Evangeline Downs in Louisiana.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Nan Lou Bolin. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Barbara Brown Butler of Haughton, LA; his four children, Frank Butler (Lauri) of McKinney, TX, Lindy Butler of Denison, TX, John Butler (Kristi) of Leonard, TX, and Miley Stapleton (Bill) of Howe, TX; his grandchildren, Mary Kendall Cox, Meredith Zeringue, Jessica Welton, Shyanne Dillingham, Rex Butler, Ted Butler, Mason Butler, Brooke Butler, Alex Butler, Billy Vaughan, Tim Butler, and John Thomas Stapleton; four great-grandchildren; his step-children, Nick Brown, Jordan Brown, and Liz Brown; nieces & nephews, Vicki Vice, Jim Vice, Tammy Walker and Rodney Bolin.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 11:00am at the Winners Circle Church at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, LA. Contributions in his memory can be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, the Louisiana High School Rodeo Association, or Pentecostals of Bossier City Church.
