Patrick Jackson Scott
November 18, 1947 - July 16, 2022

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Patrick Jackson Scott of Madison, Alabama, passed away July 16 after a valiant 13-month fight against pancreatic cancer.

Born in 1947 to the late Retired Col. Richard “Jack” and Frances Scott, Patrick was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University (Class of 1969). (The Aggie Gig ‘em sign shows optimism, determination, loyalty, and the Aggie Spirit, which Patrick embodied.) After graduation, Patrick was commissioned into the Air Force (AF) where he served in many important leadership positions and assignments throughout his 22-year AF career. One of his most memorable experiences was as the Avionics Manager for the Inertial Upper Stage Program Office. He was particularly proud of his accomplishments towards the Air Force’s contribution to the Space Shuttle Program, during which he made life-long friends who will miss him dearly. And, it was the Air Force that brought Patrick and his wife, Cathy, together when they were both stationed at Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles, CA, in 1991.

In his civilian career, Patrick continued to serve our nation as a contractor with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the United States Air Force, and Marshall Space Flight Center in various engineering and managerial capacities. After his retirement, he served as the President of his neighborhood’s Homeowners Association for three years strengthening the association’s financial resilience and longevity.

Patrick will be remembered by his family and friends for his fun-loving personality, sense of humor and ready smile, as well as his unconditional love, devotion and brilliant mind. He treasured his friends and family and was always there to lift their spirits and provide practical advice. Always an engineer, Patrick was excited to learn new things and share them with others and leave things better than how he found them. An honorable man who faced his illness with grace and determination, he was a gift from God and has now returned back to Him.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Cathy Scott, and siblings Judy Scott McSpadden (Richard), Jon Scott (Jane), Joe Scott (Martha), and Susan Scott, as well as a number of nieces and nephews and the family puppy, Heidi, who adored him.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs at Clearview Cancer Institute and Siteman Cancer Center, as well as to Teaching Pastor Emeritus Dr. Alan Weatherly of Asbury Methodist Church during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Asbury Methodist Church in Madison, Alabama, on August 13, 2022, at 9 a.m. followed by an Inurnment at a nearby Columbarium. Due to limited physical space at the Columbarium, that portion of the service will be restricted to family members and long-term friends by invitation.
