Roy Alvin Pyle

November 2, 1938 - July 17, 2022

Roy Alvin Pyle, 83, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on July 17, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He earned his Master's degree in Industrial Education at Texas A&M University in 1974.

Roy was born in Miami, Oklahoma to Cecil and Allie Pyle on November 2, 1938. He went to high school at Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas and graduated in 1957. He went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. After working for his father at Pyle Plumbing as a plumber for a few years, he left to become an Industrial Cooperative Teacher at Tech High School where he got students part-time jobs as they finished their high school courses. From here, Roy attended Texas A&M in the summers where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Counseling. With this degree, Roy became a Vocational Counselor for a few years. His next stop in education was to become a truant officer whereby he hoped to inspire students to return to school to complete their studies. Roy also served in the United States Coast Guard. While a young man Roy was a bit of a jokester, during of Battle of Flowers parade, Roy slipped into the parade with a friend while driving his fathers plumbing truck, and had his friend sit on a toilet in the back of the truck during the parade.

Roy was married to Jocelyn for 55 years. During this time, they enjoyed many vacations during their summers. Once they drove all the way to Alaska and back. Many of their trips were overseas. Roy was also a fan of hunting and fishing. On their fishing trips, Jo enjoyed reading while Roy fished. Roy and Jo enjoyed life. Friends commented how they enjoyed hearing Roy tell his stories when they were invited to their lake home.

Roy is survived by his wife, Jo for Jocelyn of San Antonio. Other survivors are: Janell Peyton, Roy's sister, her children Wendy Lawlis and her husband, Stephen and Stephen Peyton and his wife, Christa, Kay Smith who is Jo's sister, Jo's nephews Donald Smith and his wife, Marsha, and Kyle Smith and his wife, Vickie, John Baumgarten and his wife, Vickie.

 

The following services have been scheduled: Service, on July 25, 2022 at 9:00 a.m., at Fred J. Tips Mausoleum Chapel, 20900 IH, San Antonio, TX.
