Richard Abe Scott
July 10, 1944 ~ June 21, 2022

Richard Abe Scott was a caring husband, brother, Veteran, uncle, church leader and friend. He left this world on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at age 77, peacefully in his home with his beloved wife, Nelda Kay by his side.

Abe was born to Zack and Nona (Caudle) Scott on July 10, 1944, in San Angelo. After graduating from Odessa High School, Abe attended Texas A&M where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and played on the University’s renowned baseball team. While in College Station, Abe made lifelong Aggie friends and pursued his degree in Business. Along the way, Abe also managed to perfect his pool skills that he would later use in countless family games throughout the years.

Abe proudly served his country as part of the United States Navy for four years. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and travelled to various ports across the Atlantic Theater during his service. In this period, Abe married the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Nelda Kay Stanley. Together, the two flew across the U.S. in Abe’s Mooney plane that brought them countless adventures and access to the great outdoors; particularly to the mountains of Colorado they enjoyed. Over 40 years Abe worked as a drilling consultant for various companies across the U.S., oftentimes accompanied by his faithful Border Collie, Tolliejo.

Abe’s deep love of family, Christian faith and home were hallmarks throughout his life that he generously shared with his treasured community of Goldsmith, TX. Abe loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals and sharing stories of his childhood in West Texas with his parents, and brothers Kenneth and Charles. His blueberry waffles are legendary and were always served with hilarious Texas-sized tales only Abe could tell.

In the 50+ years Abe and Nelda resided in the community they held many leadership roles in the town of Goldsmith and were active members of the Goldsmith Methodist Church. Equally as important to Abe was the privilege of serving as a trusted friend, neighbor and mentor to people in Goldsmith and beyond. Abe possessed a genuine gift to make people feel comfortable and welcome in his presence. Most weekends Abe spent his time volunteering in the community, lending a helping hand and an insightful scripture to anyone in need.

Abe is survived by his wife, Nelda Kay; his two brothers, Kenneth & Sharon Scott of Dallas, Charles & Sharin Scott of Houston, and 14 nieces and nephews.

Family welcomes friends to a visitation on Sunday, June 26, 2022, from 6-8 pm, and to a celebration of life service to be held at 1pm on Monday, June 27, 2022.

Both events will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home located at 6801 East Highway 80 in Odessa. In lieu of flowers the family recommends a donation to Hospice, Heart to Heart or an organization of your choice in Abe’s honor.
