Bill Halbert Lacy, Jr.

May 30, 1948 - June 14, 2022

Bill Halbert Lacy, Jr. peacefully passed away, June 14, 2022 at his home. His legacy is carried on by his son, Brock Lacy and his wife Christy, by his daughter Heather Cook and her husband Nathan, by his grandsons Caden, Pierson, and Kingston Cook, Landon Lacy, and by his granddaughter, Irelynn Lacy. He is survived by his twin brothers, John and Scott Lacy, by their wives Lisa and Becky Lacy, by his youngest brother Kyle Lacy, and by his wife Kathy Lacy.

Bill was born to Bill Halbert Lacy Sr. and Betty Joyce DeBruler Lacy, in College Station, Texas while Bill Sr. was attending Texas A&M University. His family moved to Bellaire, Texas before his other brothers were born. Bill attended Bellaire High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Texas A&M University. Bill served in the Corps while at Texas A&M, and he went on to join the 1542 Infantry Unit as Commander for a brief service until he earned an honorable discharge in 1971. Bill then joined his father at work at American General, where he worked his entire 33-year career managing insurance agents. Bill loved American General, and he considered his friends who worked there as family.

Bill married Jewell Goree in October 1971 and the two were married until November 1977. Bill then met Sharon Kay Stone, and they were married May 1978-January 2005. Bill and Sharon moved to Northwest Houston to start and raise a family. In addition to his commitment to his career and family, Bill loved sailing, fishing, golfing, racquetball, operas, poetry, coins, and antiques. Bill loved coaching baseball, watching his son play sports, and his daughter perform in gymnastics and cheerleading. He also loved having dogs, mostly Boston Terriers, and always had at least two in the house. Bill would recite classic poetry to his kids, including Shakespeare, Henley, Carroll, and more. Bill loved to take his kids to operas and musicals like Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. At the same time, he would joyfully sing along to Jimmy Buffett, Louis Prima, or Frank Sinatra. Bill enjoyed ballroom dancing, especially with his dear friend Sandra Chandler.

Bill had a long struggle with medical issues, but his race was complete just the way he had hoped—with his kids near his side. He leaves a legacy of strength, independence, joy, patriotism, and honor to all of those he leaves behind.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy, where funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. with his son-in-law, Nathan Cook officiating.
