Michael David O'Brien
May 3, 1932 - April 14, 2022

Michael David O'Brien passed away, after a brief illness, Thursday, April 14, 2022. Burial will be private. Born May 3, 1932 in Gainesville, Texas to the late Ruth Bennet O'Brien and David O'Brien.

Mike enjoyed sharing stories of an idyllic childhood growing up in Gainesville. His parents taught him the value of strong character and integrity. That became Mike's foundation of life.

After graduating from Gainesville High School, Mike attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a degree in engineering. He was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets, and a drummer in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. Mike was commissioned as First Lieutenant in the United States Army, serving a two year commitment.

Mike's 49 year career in the global electronics and semiconductor industry began with Texas Instruments. This took him to Asia, where he became General Manager in Singapore; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and, Baguio City, Philippines. He directed a new and modern Integrated Circuit Testing Facility. After retirement from Texas Instruments, Mike joined Amkor Technology as Executive Vice President in Asia.

Mike led by example, and his relationships with his employees inspired loyalty and respect as a leader. He was a mentor to countless. His mind was full of knowledge. He laughed every day, and had the ability to make people feel welcome and accepted. Mike was a shining example of living life to the fullest.

Mike enjoyed golf, and strived for physical fitness throughout his life, completing several marathons. At age 80, he had a proud moment when he completed a half marathon.

Mike was preceded in death by his late wife of 52 years, Liz O'Brien; brother, Pat O'Brien; sister-in-law, Ginger O'Brien; nephew, Michael O'Brien.

Survived by wife, Sharron O'Brien; son, Pat O'Brien and wife, Kellie; Granddaughter, Samantha Smith and husband, Richard; Grandson, Sean O'Brien and wife, Bo; Great Grandchildren, Devin Cooper and Scarlett Smith; Sister-in-law, Carole Petty and husband, Tom; Sister-in-law, Darla Airington and husband, Everett.
