Donald T. Marburger

Donald T. Marburger died on May 8, 2022. He was born in Dime Box, Texas on April 2, 1943. He grew up in Dime Box on the family farm and graduated from Dime Box High School in 1961. At graduation he received a scholarship to Texas A&M. With the help of summer jobs and employment as a student waiter at Duncan Dining Hall he managed to pay his college expenses and graduate with a degree in Marketing in 1965. During his senior year at Texas A&M, he served as Chief Head Waiter at Duncan and met his future wife, Marguerite while attending a country dance. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. Through the AFROTC program on graduation. He married Marguerite Y. Hardcastle on August 28, 1965 and joined the US Air Force on October 4, 1965. He and Marguerite shared 56 years together and traveled the world in a 20 year Air Force career. During this time they were blessed with two children, Scott and Donna. They were stationed at Mather AFB, California, Carswell AFB, Texas, Kadena AB, Okinawa, Offutt AFB, Nebraska, Ramstein AFB, German, HQ USAFE in Heidelberg, Germany and Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Donald was a Vietnam veteran flying 84 combat missions in the B-52 and well over 100 combat missions in the RC-135 while spending 4 years in Okinawa. While in Okinawa Donald earned a master's degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California by attending night school for two years in the USC on base college program. After retiring from the Air Force on August 31, 1986, they returned to Texas and settled in Rockwall where he and Marguerite lived until his death. Donald worked as a program manager for E-Systems, Greenville from 1986 until 1994. He then worked as a school bus driver from 1994- until 1996 before earning his elementary teaching credentials through the Dallas ISD alternative certification program. From 1996 until 2006 he served as an elementary math teacher for Dallas ISD before retiring as a teacher in August 2006. After retirement, he and Marguerite traveled the world on many many worldwide cruises.

He preceded in death by his parents, Oswald and Willie Ruth Marburger and two sisters, Brenda and Karen.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Marburger, son Scott Marburger (wife Erica ‘96) of Mansfield, TX, daughter Donna Gazalski ‘94 (husband Scott) of Lantana, TX, and grandchildren Clark, Logan, and Parker Marburger and granddaughter Erika Gazalski  and grandson Jayson Gazalski.  Also brother Jerry (wife Barbara) of Austin, Texas, brother Larry of Dime Box, Texas, sisters Cynthia Jacobs (husband Dave) of Austin and sister Peggy (husband Doug) of Taylor, Texas, and six nieces and nephews.
