Lenwood Steglich
September 28, 1922 – July 23, 2021

Lenwood Steglich was born September 28, 1922 in Rosenberg, Texas and died peacefully in Dallas, Texas on July 23, 2021. He spent his childhood on his family’s dairy farm in Bartlett, Texas with his four siblings, Agnes, Maurice, Dorothy and Joyce, and attended the Pecan School in Bell County. He volunteered for and served in the United States Navy during World War II from September 1942 to February 1946. Lenwood received the Combat Action Ribbon and the Navy Good Conduct Ribbon. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in February 1946 with the rank of Pharmacist Mate Second Class. He returned to Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He was a proud Texas A&M graduate and loved to cheer for the Fightin’ Texas Aggies. He shared his love for the Aggies with his grandchildren, Kohl, Koen and Eva. He adored them and they adored their PawPaw.

Lenwood married Fern Wiley in 1953 and they were married until her death in 2007. They had four children, Linda, Lee, Greg, and Steve. Lenwood’s first profession was as a teacher but he changed course when he went to work for Dresser Magcobar until his retirement in 1986. Lenwood and Fern retired to College Station, Texas but later moved to Frisco, Texas, to be near their grandchildren. After his wife’s death, Lenwood moved to the Highland Springs Retirement Community. A highlight of his retirement was his trip to Washington, D.C. in 2014 as a part of the Honor Flight Network, which recognizes American veterans for their sacrifices and achievements. He was chosen by the Gary Sinise Foundation’s Soaring Valor to accompany a group of high school students to the World War II museum and share stories with his fellow veterans and the younger generation about rebuilding the country.

Lenwood was preceeded in death by his parents, Adolph William and Flora Patterson Steglich; his wife, Fern Wiley Steglich; his daughter, Linda Ann Steglich; and his siblings Agnes Walseth, Maurice Steglich, and Dorothy Caperton. He is survived by his sister, Joyce McKinney; his sons, Dr. Alan Lee Steglich and his wife Melanie Bowen Steglich, Gregory B. Steglich and his wife Judith Reynolds Steglich, and Steven DeWitt Steglich and his wife Maria Luspo Steglich; his grandchildren, Kohl Sutton Steglich, Koen James Steglich, and Eva Paige Steglich; his niece Carolyn Sowers Byrd; and special family member, Tran Chau.

A viewing and visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 President George Bush Turnpike in Dallas, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the College Station Cemetery in College Station, Texas, where Lenwood will be laid to rest. Dr. Simon Goncharenko will preside over the graveside service. Honorary pallbearers will be Kohl, Koen and Eva Steglich.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Honor Flight Network or the Gary Sinise Foundation. The family is truly grateful for the love and care Lenwood received from his friends and the staff at Highland Springs Retirement Community and from VNA Hospice Care.
