Dr. Teddy Barclay Pope

October 1, 1939 - April 10, 2022

Dr. Teddy LaVerne Barclay Pope, 82, of Beaumont, passed away, Sunday, April 10, 2022 at her residence.

Services will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Officiating will be Brother Hails Taylor.

Teddy was born October 1, 1939 to George W. Sr. and Ruby E. Vinson Barclay in Batson, Texas. A longtime resident of Beaumont she was a 1957 graduate of Beaumont High School. She received her Bachelor of Science from Lamar University in 1960, Masters of Education from Sam Houston State University in 1961, and Doctorate of Education from Texas A&M in 1986. Teddy had been a school teacher, counselor, and supervisor director with Houston I.S.D., Bryan I.S.D, and the Texas Education Agency having retired in 2000 with over 40 years of service. She was a member of the Lamar University, Sam Houston State University and Texas A&M University Alumni Associations. Also, a member of the Eastern Star, Confederate Rose of Texas, Retired Teacher's Association, Delta Zeta Sorority, and Texas Vocational Homemaking Teacher's Association. Teddy was saved in a revival on the 2nd Sunday morning at Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont in October of 1951 at the age of 11. She was raised by the Bible and Emily Post and tried to live by it. She had good Christian parents.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Sr. and Ruby Barclay; and daughter, Dennise LaVerne Pope.

She is survived by her son, Perry B. Pope, Jr. of Houston; brother, Dr. George W. Barclay, Jr. of Woodville; sister, Ruby Nell Barclay Seale of Dallas; grandchildren, Perry B. Pope, III and Connor K. Pope; and numerous other family and friends.
