Roll Call Tribute

Austin Grant Armstrong passed away on January 3, 2022 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was 25 years old. Austin was born on June 26, 1996 in Houston, Texas to John and Kim Armstrong, and grew up in Katy, Texas.

Austin courageously battled cancer for the last six years. He remained strong and determined through endless chemo treatments, radiation, surgeries, two stem cell transplants, and numerous clinical trials. He helped progress research for Acute Myeloid Leukemia in multiple ways and lived to see one of the trials that was initially successful for him, as an adult, be offered to the pediatric patients at MD Anderson; something he was so proud of. He always had a warm smile, contagious laugh, and lots of stories he graciously shared with all those who cared for him - from the nurses and doctors to the housekeepers and everyone in between who came in contact with him.

While growing up in Katy, Texas, Austin graduated from Morton Ranch High School in 2015. He played soccer, sang in the choir, was class president, earned his Eagle Scout award and received numerous recognitions and honors. He continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Communication and graduated with honors in 2020.

Austin was very athletic and played just about every sport imaginable. He had a sense of humor and charisma that drew people to him. He could connect and engage with young children, adults and the elderly with grace, compassion, and love. Austin’s true passion was his relationship with God and sharing that relationship with others, both here at home and abroad through missions.

He was very involved in his church, Kingsland Baptist church in Katy, Texas from teaching Sunday school to leading small groups. He started a bible study at Morton Ranch high school, sponsored through his church, that grew close to 100 students. Austin went on numerous mission trips here in the United States and overseas, places like Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Jordan. Through his love for God and missions, he served as a summer missions’ intern at Kingsland Baptist. During his internship, he went to Alaska to serve with a non-profit, Graceworks Alaska, for two summers. It was during one of those summers that he met the love of his life.

Austin met Lauren Nicole Kennedy of Clarksville, Tennessee and the two of them dated long distance for a year and a half. He proposed to her in Clarksville on December 28, 2019 and they married in a beautiful ceremony in Cypress, Texas on June 16, 2020. The love he had for Lauren radiated through every part of his being. Austin was so proud of Lauren as a person and a wife. He talked about her to everyone and shared how blessed his life was because of her. The two of them were inseparable. Their love was a true example of what God intended love to be. Together they attended Bay Area Church in League City, where Lauren was on staff.

Austin will be remembered and loved for the powerful and intentional relationships he built with everyone he knew. He will be remembered for his heart and passion for God and his constant desire to bring others to know God as he did.

Austin is survived by his wife, Lauren Armstrong; father and mother, John and Kim Armstrong; sister, Courtney; nephew and niece, Andrew and Ila; and maternal grandfather, Richard Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Myrna Anderson; and paternal grandparents, Lynda and John Armstrong.

A celebration of life service will take place on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Kingsland Baptist Church, 20555 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas 77450. The service will also be live streamed at kingsland.org/live.
