Benny Steve Herrington

Benny passed this earthly life to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 23, 2021, while in a hospital in Katy. His suffering is no more.

Benny was born on April 15, 1941, in Goose Creek, Texas. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Lee College, and then graduated with a Degree in Industrial Education from Texas A&M University. He was a proud Fighting Texas Aggie Class of '64.

He began his career as an Industrial Arts teacher where he enjoyed teaching students woodshop. He worked for Brown & Root Corporation and organized a school to introduce Engineering graduates to electrical drafting.

Benny worked at Hudson Engineering and J Ray McDermott Engineering in various roles in Estimating, Material Takeoff and Project Controls for 30 years. He retired once and then returned to Mustang Engineering for 15 years then officially retired to enjoy his family. He was well respected nationally and internationally for his knowledge and was often called upon when there was a quick resolution needed for an Estimate.

In 1986, at The San Antone Rose in Houston, TX, Benny met is future bride, Rosie. He enjoyed dancing the Two-Step, Walzing and Western swing. The two were married on June 22, 1991 at her Childhood Home in Pittsburgh, Pa. Family members always spoke of what a memorable event it was. Benny and Rosie were married for 30 years this past June.

Benny was a very devoted son, husband and father. He always placed the needs of everyone before himself. He loved playing with his Dog, Buddy, Joeys Dog, Moby and going to the barn to take care of his horses Betty Boop and Moonshine. Before his eyesight interfered he loved to fish, hunt and woodwork. He made many pieces of furniture and liked playing card games. In the last months Benny enjoyed keeping in contact with his friends and family by phone. He made a daily call to his brother Mike and his wife Lavon where they would discuss the day events as they drank a cold beer together.

The couple proudly raised Joey in Katy, Texas where he was active in Boy Scouts of America where he went on many Campouts. He used his carpentry talents to assist Joey with making Instrument shelves for the High School Band Room for his Eagle Project. He was known for transporting music instruments near and far when needed. In recent years, he and Joey would have coffee or tea every morning together as they would discuss current events or listen to music. It was the highlight of Benny's Day.

He enjoyed talking to his daughter Robin about the content of the Bible and Historical Events. He loved to talk about the Historical Past and how our world evolved. Christopher found out, Grandpa Benny knew the lines to practically every movie they watched together and usually never held back with the punch line. Benny was amazed by Sarah's artistic talent and how she always handmade a thoughtful greeting card for him and brought him some homemade cookies or muffins. Benny always had a funny story to tell and enjoyed talking with anyone he would meet.

Benny turned 80 this year and many friends and family members composed Happy Birthday Videos to view and it was the highlight of the year.
