JANUARY 24, 2003 – DECEMBER 18, 2021

Chance McKay Gibson was born January 24, 2003 in Houston, TX to Spencer and Jana Gibson. On Saturday, December 18, 2021 Chance passed away unexpectedly as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Chance was a three-year letter winner in cross country and track & field at The Woodlands High School. He graduated earlier this year from The Woodlands High School and was able to achieve his dream of attending Texas A&M University as a member of their track team. During his first semester, Chance competed in the Aggie Opener 5K and the Texas A&M Invitational 8K. There are many facets to Chance Gibson; as one friend so eloquently stated, “he spent his life making sure he would never be forgotten. As an athlete, he truly cared about his teammates and he was a leader and mentor to those around him.” Chance loved his family, friends, teammates, coaches, cars, competing, and helping anyone. He loved enjoying life, working hard, and was an extremely driven young man. In addition to his time spent training and running, Chance was a priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as a member of The Woodlands 1st Ward, in The Woodlands, Texas Stake.

Chance was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Janet French.

He is survived by his parents Spencer '01 and Jana Gibson, sister Kara Gibson, brother Caden Gibson, and sister Cambree Gibson, paternal grandparents Gary and Jean Gibson, maternal grandfather Johnny French, aunts and uncles, Jeff '99 and Jessica Gibson and family, Jonny Gibson '03 and family, David '04 and Serena Gibson and family, Jon-Michael and Betsy French and family, and great aunt Gina Hinman and husband Garlan.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29th 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15940 Old Conroe Road, Conroe, TX 77384. Visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, in Conroe on Tuesday, December 28th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the 12th Man Foundation -1922 Fund, P.O. Box 2800, College Station, TX 77841-2800 in memory of Chance McKay Gibson. You can also donate online to the 1922 Fund at www.12thmanfoundation.com, please add Chance Gibson to the notes section. All funds donated will be endowed to the Chance McKay Gibson Cross Country and Track Scholarship for future Texas A&M athletes.
