David Wayne Worlow
April 2, 1959 - December 2, 2021

David Wayne Worlow was born on April 2, 1959 in Cleburne, Texas. He grew up in Haltom City, Texas with a brief stint in San Diego, California when he was in the second grade. Following his older brother Larry's footsteps, David was an avid member of Boy Scout Troop 122, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. One of his fondest memories from scouting was a 12-day backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch with his dad, Andy. As a teen he worked at Barbrook Park as a lifeguard where he developed underwater skills such as sitting on the bottom of the deep end of the pool holding a volleyball. Beginning in high school, David worked for Frank Koener’s cabinet shop where he built and installed custom cabinets. David attended Haltom High school where he was a member of the tennis team.

After graduating in 1977, he matriculated to Texas A&M University where he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1981 and a Masters in Petroleum Engineering in 1987. In the fall of 1980, his senior year at A&M, David was a Civilian Coordinator (Brown Pot) for the Aggie Bonfire where he met his wife, Lynda. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree, David worked for Halliburton in Artesia, NM. Following a long distance courtship, Lynda and David were married on June 30, 1984 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran church in College Station.

In February of 1988, he was employed by Zapata Exploration in Houston, Texas. His first son, John David, was born on June 6, 1988 in Bryan, Texas. David was working in downtown Houston at the time and made it just in time for the arrival of his first son. His second son, Stephen Wayne, was born on August 7, 1991. Fortunately, David had just returned from working in the Gulf of Mexico, short circuiting the backup plan of helicoptering to the hospital. He began consulting in 1995 working on drilling, workover, and completions, traveling around the world to many exotic locations including Venezuela, Trinidad, Vietnam, Tunisia, Nigeria, China, and Russia.

Although David preferred to remain in the background, he was willing to step forward when needed. In support of his sons, he became a soccer referee and coach and his company, DCW Engineering, was the team sponsor for John and Stephen’s teams at the Klein Soccer Club. He enjoyed refereeing so much that he went on to referee high school soccer games across the Houston area. He served as the Troop 41 Committee Chair and was instrumental in rewriting the troop bylaws during his tenure.

David enjoyed traveling. He and Lynda were able to spend time in Tobago, Saint Lucia, Granada, Austria/Czech Republic/Hungary, and Thailand/Cambodia. David particularly enjoyed visiting the national parks with his father and sons, including Yosemite, Arches, and Yellowstone. David loved the mountains and embraced every opportunity to visit New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, California, and Wyoming.

David’s love language was in sharing his craftsmanship. As a young man he designed and built furniture that was both sturdy and functional. In later years, he loved to use his smoker to prepare delicious meals for family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Lynda '83, his son and daughter-in-law, John and Victoria, his son, Stephen, his grandson, Henry, his father, Andy, and his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Charly.
