Samuel Clayton Welsh, 82, of Katy, Texas passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021.

Sam was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, TX on January 19, 1939, the son of Lelta Elizabeth (Robertson) and Oscar Barton Welsh.

He grew up in Texas City, where he learned the value of loyalty and devotion to family and friends.

He went on to receive a B.A. in Math from Texas A&M Class of 1960. In 1956, he was honored to be a trainer on the Aggie football team under Coach Bear Bryant. He was always proud to be an Aggie.

He served in the United States Air Force as a pilot. After his honorable discharge, he earned his license as a private pilot.

He enjoyed a successful career in Computer Sales for Collins Radio, IBM, Floating Point Systems, Cray Inc, and ultimately retiring from BMC in Houston. A colleague once referred to Sam as the smartest fella he knew in his field.

Sam was a loyal friend to all he met. He never met a stranger. He sent cards to remember birthdays and special occasions. He and Sandra always hosted family gatherings in their homes in Houston and La Grange. He was a substitute teacher in his retirement in La Grange.

His last five months were spent in the retirement community of Heritage Grand Cinco Ranch in Katy. He enjoyed living near his sister, Beth, and brother-in-law, David Black. He was an active member of their Veterans Association where he assisted a team that placed the flags in front of all the homes during special holidays. He became a part of the monthly Saturday morning breakfasts with his cousin Robert Bruce Reynolds.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Gaye Mackie and her sons, Sam Mackie and Landry Mackie; Victoria Welsh and her children, Jackson Poe and Madelyn Poe, Delyse Jaeger and her husband, James; their son, Garrett and Kelley Keen and her daughter, Alley; sister, Beth Black and her husband, David; their daughter, Mary Beth Black, of Houston, TX; their son, Barton Black and his wife, Brin; and their children, Billie and Jess of Atlanta, GA.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sandra Wells Welsh, and his parents Lelta and Barton Welsh.

Sam will forever be remembered as the most generous person, always thinking of others first. He was a great role model for family and friends.
