Ishmael Granville Callaway
January 19, 1930 - October 04, 2021

Ishmael Granville Callaway, 91, of Leander, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at his home.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 16, 2021 in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Henrietta, Texas.

Ishmael was born January 19, 1930 in Petrolia, Texas the 2nd of 12 children. He attended Petrolia high school then graduated from Texas A&M in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He joined the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed in Korea as an Engineer. After leaving Korea, he attended Harvard Business School and earned his Master's Degree in Business Administration.

Upon marrying Vena Callaway (nee Gibson) in 1956 they adopted 3 children. He worked as a Civil Engineer then later as a CPA for a large accounting firm. In the early 1970's Ish and Vena started A-Bar-Z Ponderosa Child Care Centers in Austin and Corpus Christi which he managed until his passing. He was a compassionate and thoughtful man, dedicated to the care of the children in their care centers, and well-respected by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his children Silva Beth Sidoti, Steven Callaway, Kevin Callaway, grandson Spencer Callaway, brothers Mike, Ronnie, Tim and sisters Renee Sternadel, Laquita Rogers, and LaRue Hawkins.

His loss will be felt by all friends and family.
