John Edward Thomas Leonard
February 8, 1931 - December 8, 2021

Dr. John Edward Thomas (Jack) Leonard, 90, peacefully departed this life on December 8, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was an amazing husband, wonderful father, doting grandfather, and soon to be great-grandfather. He is loved by his four children, who greatly benefit from his wisdom and think the world of him. He dearly loved his seven grandchildren: Lisa Michelle Tan (husband, Dimitri), Hunter Rees, Dean Michael Leonard '19 (wife, Emily), Jet Leonard III, Kyle Leonard, Ava Leonard, and Andi Risk.

Jack was born February 8, 1931 in Dallas and grew up in Garland. He graduated from Garland High School in 1948 where he played basketball, was Student Council President and made many lifelong friends.  “Jackie” furthered his education at Texas A&M University and graduated in 1952. He chose to follow his father’s career path as a dentist attending Baylor College of Dentistry.  Upon graduation in 1956, he married Lois Ann Hill, of Garland, and moved to England to fulfill his military obligation as a Captain in the United States Air Force. They returned to Dallas where Jack joined his father’s dental practice at the Medical Arts building in Dallas and raised their family.

Jack’s dental patients were of utmost importance to him. His restorative dental artistry is evident in his patients to this day. He practiced dentistry for forty years, retiring in 1996, and remained in touch with his patients and fellow colleagues whom he regarded as cherished friends. He and Lois enjoyed travelling the world and spending time with their family.

Jack is preceded in death by his father, Dr. John E. Leonard, his mother, Irene, brother, Larry and sister, Kathy Hatch.  He is survived by his two daughters, Leah Leonard and Linda Risk (husband, Mark), and two sons, Jet (wife, Joni) and Tim Leonard '84 (wife, Tina). He is also survived by his brother, Bo (wife, Julie) and sister, Mary Figueroa (husband, Luis) and many dear friends and family members.

The family will receive guests on Sunday December 12th from 3-5 pm at Williams Funeral Home in Garland. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Monday, December 13th at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas.  Immediately following the Mass will be a reception in the Parish Center, followed by a procession to the burial at Restland Cemetery, for those that wish to attend.  Donations in Jack’s memory can be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, Texas A&M, or a charity of your choice.
